Wheel Bearing Replacement

My front left wheel bearing is shot and I have ordered a replacement. Has anyone installed wheel bearings themselves, without special tools? There are a couple videos on youtube that are helpful but I was curious about the Fit specifically.

I'm getting off work in a few minutes, so when I get home I'll check the service manual and see if it's an ordinary change or not.

EDIT: turns out you have to press fit the wheel bearings. Should just need a press kit (could rent from most auto stores) and/or a puller. (again, rent). Beyond that, regular socket wrench, flatblade screwdriver and some ass should do the trick.

Lemme know if you need something else!

I've done Civics and you really need a hydraulic press and appropriate adapters to support the inner and outer race of the bearing. I believe some auto parts stores will change the bearing for you.

I have done civic's, looks the same. I bought a HF 12 ton press and bearing plates to do it. Worth the investment by the time you pay a shop to do it or pay someone to press them out.

Then you can also do bushings and ball joints. Stuck driveshaft.

ConterFit, what sounds are you getting? I smacked a curb during a snowstorm and I get some humming noise, but it's only noticeable on a smooth road. May change it at the next brake job.

Thanks for all the replies. I ended up taking the entire hub assembly to my local shop, and they pressed the old one out and the new one in for $40. Left side is good, but still need to do the right. I actually think the right bearing was the one that was bad, but from what I've heard about bearings, it's not a bad idea to replace both.

Red 05- thanks for the suggestions and info, I did try auto stores for rental equipment but they don't have a bearing press/puller (of course they have everything else though). I actually tried to make my own out of a threaded rod, nuts, washers, and some good ol air impact wrench. Didn't work though (got impatient), so gave up and took it in.

demouser- I had looked on YouTube for wheel bearing replacement guides and I found a video demonstrating what an f'd bearing sounds like. That really helped me. It honestly reminds me of a washing machine in the way it shakes. I also somewhat narrowed it down to the wheel bearing because of the fact that the shaking seems to pertain to rotational motion. I had originally thought something with my coilovers had gone wrong. As for brakes, to my knowledge, unless you have a rotor that is completely misshaped, they will not cause such a severe vibration. If your car is shaking and it definitely doesn't sound or feel right, and it seems to vibrate per rotation, it's your wheel bearing.

Thanks again for the help and I hope this helped you.

Thanks for the update. Did you get a Honda bearing or aftermarket?

Was gonna go OEM, but knowing how long it takes to get parts shipped I went to AdvancedAuto. Brand is National Ball Bearing.
