Fuel filter is for life (even if I don't agree with this solution).

 

Looking at the online service manual 120kms seems to be the max. What makes you say lifetime? Not that eager to get to it but it does seem necessary. Cheers

 

It's integrated into the fuel pump and does not need to be changed unless you are having issues. Using quality fuel keeps it from getting dirty.

I guess as the other posters are saying, if there's no need to replace the filter then why replace the pump? I understand what people are saying but it seems to me the reason for the filter is to replace it periodically, thereby saving the cost of replacing the pump. Old school thinking on my part? With 135k on my 09, I was considering this as a service possibility and looked around and found that the Service Manual for this car recommends replacing the fuel filter at 120k

but I looked on bernardi and cant find a replacement part....while this can be a for life item, do you really want to drive it until it fails on you?

If anyone finds a replacement filter or pump for this car, let me know.

 

Rockauto and other places online have fuel filter listed. I was going to go to lordco myself.

 

190K miles on my 09 Sport and have never replaced the fuel filter or pump. No issues.

 

Check and see if anybody in your local area is responsible for fuel quality testing. Not all states have it..

Oregon Does not inspect fuel, we get the 7 western states reject fuel.. Top Tier my a**..

 

Hi, which manual did you consult?
On mine it says it is to be replaced only if fuel pump breaks and it is for life.
My car il a 1.2 liter engine year 2010 engine code L12B2.

 

Interesting, all of Canada has gasoline standards and my province (B.C) has their own on top of those. Changing out the fuel filter doesn't seem like the end of the world as a project but seemingly unnecessary as a maintenece item?
I think a lot of people use the online manual ( Honda Jazz / Honda Fit GE8 2009 onwards Online Repair Manual ) and I also ordered a Haynes manual off eBay for the Jazz, just wanting a paper copy of items and made adjustments for model variations. Cheers

 

I can see how a lot of people see replacing the fuel filter as a precautionary maintenance. Some other cars/manufacturers (Ford comes to mind) have an easily accessible fuel filter usually located against the passenger side firewall under the hood. I've seen a few too many times were a $20 filter causes all sorts of headaches because clogged or dirty filters can lead to sputtering or not starting at all. I saw somewhere a diagram to get to the Fit's filter/pump assembly. I believe the entire assembly was pricey at about $300 (pricey when you just want to replace the filter) and it's located in the fuel tank, a big pain. Luckily! Honda was nice and made an access point under the center console where the gearshift is.


Here's a pretty good video showing where/how to access the fuel pump. It's on a Jazz but should be the same for the USDM version. This guy is either ballsy or very mechanically inclined because he pretty much disassembled the entire pump but showed that yes! You can replace the fuel filter!

Thanks for the video, I searched forever and didn't see that. I personally will prob change it out this spring, since the definition of a filter to me is to save the subsequent motor, pump, whatever. Even with pretty clean gas (presumably/idealistically) when I hit about 150 000 kms that's a lot of fuel. Cheers

 

By the way, the price of the certified Fit manual scared me off and I don't like the online subscription idea Haynes offers-all I need is to drop a wrench on my phone. Got a Haynes manual for the Jazz which has been reasonably useful-some configurations of the car are different but still useful. About $25 through eBay, mine was straight from good old England mate. Cheerio
