Buying a truck makes a lot of sense if you're renovating houses for a living.
Otherwise buying a truck to renovate your own house is massively wasteful, you're not going to be using that nearly enough to justify the waste.
FWIW, I get 35-40 MPG even driving in Chicago traffic during rush hour.
So I've had my loaner Versa Note for a week now. The Fit is in the driveway. What I decided to do is to start the Fit every 5 days, then back up to the end of the driveway, then forward. Figured this could eliminate flat spots on the tires. Plus, keeps the electronics up to date. I read that if the cars sits longer than 7 days, everything has to be re-set. Run the engine at least 5 minutes. Is that long enough? Driving the Note makes me realize how good the Fit is.

It all depends on the paperwork you had to sign when getting the loaner. If I signed mine (aka left car at my house) I had to submit my current mileage (verified by dealer) and then they used google maps to figure out exactly how many miles it was from dealership to garage and then back to dealership. They require that that is the ONLY miles you are allowed to put on it.
I just let the dealership house it for 97 days. Car works fine and is getting about 40mpg via the EVIC... however my overall is still 36mpg.

and to add to that, the comfort of the ride and the ride height is what makes the truck so attractive. sitting above traffic makes those long daily traffic jams easier to swallow.
to reiterate, a truck was never on my radar, but after Honda so graciously let me have one for 3+ months I realized the just how bad the Honda ride quality really was. I mean I knew it was uncomfortable as a daily driver, but didn't really have much to compare to. My mustang is more comfortable but I don't Daily that car.
Plus if in the future we decided to add a boat to the lake house, a truck would make a lot more sense for towing
If Honda made a decent vehicle with a decent ride height sub 30k I would look into it. but what they want for their pilots and ridgeline is insane.
Got my car back...
Well, after four months with a loaner I finally got my 2009 Honda Fit back from the dealership. As I expected, the battery was dead, but I didn't really have to put up a huge fight for them to replace it for me at their expense. Aside from the battery issue, I can't really tell any problems with my vehicle from sitting for four months. I'm sure that I'm not the only person who was or would be concerned about such a delay between driving intervals.
Anyways, I just figured I'd leave a follow-up about my experience. It's nice to have the ol' Fit back. When I bought this car I told myself that I would run it until the wheels fall off. And at 110,000 miles, I probably have a long way to go.

Received a Nissan Rogue as a rental. I'm in Oakland CA, but dealership is in San Leandro. Took the Nissan to San Francisco and traded it for a Fiat 500X rental. No questions asked.
The airbag was replaced in June. Received the new passenger airbag recall in June, but awaiting notification of parts availability.
One big question - Was the replacement another Takata part which will need to be replaced once again before the 12/2018 deadline?
Did you get a rental for your Fit?
Just letting you all know that requesting a loaner might move you up the wait list. My wife called the dealership on Wednesday to get on the wait list and was told it could be a long wait. Called the next day to request a loaner, and all of the sudden they have an airbag for her car (2010)!
so there have been about 100 injuries and 10 deaths associated with takata air bags from air bags made between 2002 (2002!) and 2015. so basically you have about a 1 in a million chance of being injured by one of these fookers blowing up.
The airbag has been replaced on my 2013 Fit. We had the rental car 18 days; cost Honda $630. Was told that if you have a rental, you will get the airbag before folks who just drop the car off at the dealer. So, what is gonna happen to Takada? They are the ones at fault in this mess, but I haven't heard anything about them lately. Well, glad to have my Fit back.

In the end I had to make them cover the cost for a rental for the day since I needed a car while they replaced the airbag. Wife had to take the metro back home. It was a PITA but glad it's fixed now.
