Thumbs up Finally part of the High MPG club!

Hi everyone...

I finally cracked 40MPG on my 2012 Fit Sport! I wanted to share.

Finally part of the High MPG club!-img_0518.jpg

It's amazing what a car with just two people, only the radio on (no A/C and no rear defroster), not a lot of stuff and going the speed limit on a flat highway with not a lot of traffic will do for your mileage! Amazing! I'm used to getting 35MPG on the freeway if I'm lucky, but that's usually because of traffic, and having 4-5 people-with lots of stuff-inside.

Anyway-thanks for listening.

I have a 2013 Fit Base with 5 speed stick. Got 41 MPG today, driving from Phoenix to Flagstaff. This is like 3rd or 4th time over 40 MPG. What really helps is if you can keep MPH around 65 and use cruise control. I have gotten 36 MPH at 75 MPH (speed limit here) with A/C on, going from Phoenix to Tucson. Worst I've ever gotten is 28 MPH, mostly surface street with A/C on. That's like going to & from work when it's 5000 degrees. OK, 4000....

Nice. Mine is a 5AT, so I feel even luckier to have gotten my 42.5 MPG. I routinely get in the high 20s when I drive around town, in traffic.

I picked up a 09 Fit sport yesterday. It has 78k for mileage and is a manual transmission. I have put about 100 miles on it and the computer says I have a 44.1 average MPG. I am stoked! I have been hyper-mile-ing - shifting to 5th gear as fast as possible while only slightly lagging behind traffic, then matching speeds below 65 and setting cruise. The car has Bridgestone Blizzak, studless winter tires. I assume they are inflated to factory psi ratings since it is a dealer certified Fit. I have been running the defroster, heater, radio, and lights. I hope to continue to average mpg's in the 40's! I really love this car!

Nice, Russ! I definitely think that staying near the speed limit with cruise control is key. Congrats on your new ride and welcome to Club Fit. It's a pretty awesome little car.

I'm generally right around 40mpg on a tankly basis. 5 speed manual here. Driving to and from work is probably 50-70% freeway depending on what my destination is (varies where I go from day to day). Sometimes it's all city, sometimes all freeway but it really makes no difference. AC use also isn't a factor as a drve just a little more conservative when it's on. I never floor it and my city driving has very few traffic lights to get in the way...

I do make am effort to try and get the best mileage everytime I get behind the wheel (it's a fun game for me) but I wouldn't call myself one of those hypermilers. My worst mileage is when im on the I-10 to LA from Phoenix at a constant 79mph (without the cruise cuz then it would be worse)...in that situation I can drop to as low as 32mph. This car feels like it has to be floored almost the whole time to keep up with that traffic at those speeds

Having a manual must make a big difference. I never get the kind of mileage you guys do. Of course I also just drive around town in thick traffic. So that's part of it.

I'm in western Montana and there are some big speed bumps lol. Our terrain is anything but flat, even in the valleys. I replaced the Fit with a 2001 Jeep Cherokee with 265k miles that was getting about 15 mpg. I love my Jeep but decided to try out a sub compact car for my commute....the best being a Honda Fit. I looked into the Ford Fiesta and Nissan Versa. Both were nervous and handled terribly regardless of all the bells and whistles. Snow tires tend to degrade gas mileage, and I am impressed with what I am seeing. I cannot wait to slightly over inflate some summer tires next year and continue to hypermile.

One thing I noticed is that the dash readout for MPG is optimistic. I do the calculations by hand, and sometimes there is a 3 MPG difference between what I get & what readout says.

Awesome!

The highest I've ever gotten on my 2012 automatic fit is 44.5 mpg on a particular highway route I periodically take. However, I just get around 30mpg in my day to day driving as it's all local.

Cruise control works wonders on flat ground while pulse and glide works better on roads with lots of hills.

That's pretty great, bob89. I wish I were ever going fast enough for long enough to use cruise around town but I never am.

I got my 42.5MPG rating on a 3hr trip where cruise was on for most of it, no AC and the Fit wasn't lugging a lot of people and stuff. And the roads were mostly flat.

Thank you for the tips!

I found that after I did my first valve adjustment at 67K miles and replaced and properly torqued the plugs, the car picked up 2 mpg.
