Smile GE8 5MT Shift Points - Your Preferences!

I've seen a few threads from 5+ years ago on this topic, so in the interest of not commenting on a dead thread:

How hard do you beat your little Fit?

After doing some reading, it seems like most Fit owners pick a lower shift point (3-4k) in the interest of fuel economy. Some even scoot around shifting at 2.5k!

However... I drive the hell out of mine. After always letting things warm up first, I usually shift at upwards of 5k, taking it to 6.5k at least once or twice a trip.

I drive 450 miles round trip across the barren wasteland of Florida every other weekend, so this car sees a lot of hard acceleration and pedal-mashing through 3rd and sometimes to the top of 4th gear at absurd speeds.

Other than valve chatter that has plagued the baby since before we met, my horrible habits seem to have no effect on the car over the 44k that I've pounded out in 18 months.

I beat the h*ll out of it! Get into the Vtec every time I drive it. After it is warmed up, of course. Has around 96k miles on it now. Losing oil and not having to fill it back up between oil changes.....yet. Chalk it up to the price of fun. Using Mobil 1 0w-20 syth and the best Fram oil filter. Change oil earlier than what the car tells me to. Generally go around 8k between oil changes.

It is a slow hatchback.
The engine sounds awful at 'high' RPM.
It is not efficient to shift past 3500-4000 RPM.

Thus I always shift it between 3000 and 4000 RPM. I take it redline every few weeks to let it clear itself out a bit, but that's really not fun, so I don't do it often. My other car is just waking up at 6k, so it should be clear why I'm not too stoked on the L15.

Dag, feel bad for you bro. My Fit doesn't begin to pull decent until 4k RPM and comes "on the cam" at 5k then Vtec at ~5.5k by that time you are close to the rev limiter so why not take it there? You must have kept your Fit bone stock. Keeping the stock air intake is strangling the Vtec! Oh, and I think the Fit sounds good at high RPM - its obvious the engine loves to rev (at least my very mildly modified version). The Vtec makes it louder than any 4 banger should be (with HPS Short Ram). They can hear me coming!

wut.

You've never driven a car with a good engine, have you?

Fit engine sucks, from idle to redline.

My summer daily sounds like this:

As such, Fit engine is butt. 9000 RPM or bust.
