My 2010 sport was hit and run about 4 years ago and I had to have the hatch replaced. The handle / mechanism that opens the hatch worked fine for a few years but about a year ago I started having problems with it. The remote unlock works and I can shut the hatch and it stays shut but the problem I'm having with it is that when I open it from the outside the handle stays depressed even after I let go of it and once it's shut, I can't open it from the outside despite it being unlocked. When that happens I have to climb inside the car, take off the tiny plastic door to the mechanism and push the little white tab inside the mechanism compartment (up) so that I can then go back outside and open the hatch.
Does anyone have any resources they can send me to help me repair this issue?

Maybe some rust on the shaft. There is a thread on this. Try a shot of WD40 on the shaft. Use a flashlight to view it.
