Snow tire dilemma

Hi,
I just got my 2013 Fit LX in August, so have never put snow tires on it yet.
I am not a car person at all. I've done lots of googling about tires, and as a result I'm even more confused.

I want to know what my best (and most budget friendly) option is of those below:
1. car came with snow tires not on rims (175/65/r15). Ideally I'd use these, but since they're not on rims it's more of a hassle.
2. I have 195/55/r15 tires from a Mazda Protoge that was totalled. These are on rims, unsure if they will fit.
3. found a set of 175/70 R14, on rims (8 bolt pattern), on craigslist for $100

For the life of me I can't figure out the bolt pattern for my Fit. It has 5 bolts, but every website that I go to tells me it should have 4?
As far as I know I have a stock car. I bought it used from a dealership and they didn't tell me anything otherwise.

Thanks for the help!

A 2013 Honda Fit comes with a 4 lug setup and uses ball seat lugs. So if you go with a non-standard honda rim then you may need different lugs. Since your in BC, checkout 1010tires.com and checkout their wheel and tire package selector. I went with: Winter Rims Direct Fit Steel Various 15x6, 4/100 (Offset 42) Wheel | 1010Tires.com Online Wheel and Tire Store rims and bridgestone Blizzak WS-80 175/65R15 and still used my honda ball seat lugs. Canadian 2013 fits don't have TPMS (tire pressure monitoring system) so you don't need the sensors.
Definitely check your existing rims to see if they are 5 lug. If so, your car is no longer stock.

As far as I know I have a stock car. I bought it used from a dealership and they didn't tell me anything otherwise.

1) Lets see a photo of the 5 bolt wheels on your car. All Fit's are 4X100

Answers to your questions:

1) First off measure the tread dept. Snow tires are basically used up when at 4/32" tread dept. Also check the date code. It will be four numbers such as 2217 which translates to the 22 week of 2017. I wouldn't use tires that are 6 years old or older. If you don't have anything to measure the tread depth then go to your local tires store and they'll probably measure it for you.

Second part of the question is you can probably buy steel wheels from Summit racing in a 15X6" for $45 each. It's free shipping to the US, not sure about Canada? Either that or look for used 4X100 steel wheels off Craigslist. Just make sure they didn't come off some Mazda that had a 54.1mm hub diameter or they won't fit. Honda has a larger hub diameter of 56.1mm

2) Mazda protege had two bolt patterns depending on the year. Some were 4X100 and some were 4X1114.3mm. Again check your hub bore diameter.

3) If they have snow tires and the tread depth is 4/32" or greater, date code and that one of the bolt patterns is 4X100. If so than $100 is a fair price. If they're a deal they're probably gone. Lastly always ask to check fit one wheel on the front before buying anything used.

Good luck

go to: www.tirerack.com

select your car and select winter wheel package or something in that category.
you can choose steel wheels which will be the cheapest.

GL i buy from tirerack all the time and been to their warehouse in person many times.. they are a VERY good source for wheels and tires.

The last Mazda Proteges had 4x100 or 5x114 (ish).

Pull the plastic hubcap off and look. The black steel wheel behind the hubcap will only have four lug nuts

I like Tire Rack and try to use them as much as possible. They support grassroots motorsports and the teen street survival driving school. Unfortunately the snow tires I just bought were $17 more per tire with shipping from TR. Not sure why? Other than the latest, 2005 was the last time I purchased from any other than TR.

Wouldn't that be interesting! a hubcap with 5 plastic bolt pattern over a 4 bolt wheel. What Rob H said. Pull the plastic off, check it out. Too weird.

I pulled the plastic hubcap off and lo and behold! There are 4 bolts! Thanks for telling me this - it never crossed my mind that the hubcap wouldn't match what's underneath.

did you try talking to your sales rep? my guy use to price match if i found a price lower than theirs as long as they were a legitimate shop aka, chainstores like Discount Tires and the like.

What I would do if I were you and assuming the black steel wheels were 15” is use the snow tires you have on them. During the time between winter and spring look for some used Si wheels, Fit wheels or some aftermarket aluminum wheels and put the summer tires on them assuming there’s enough thread to make it worth while. Just be careful of Mazda wheels or Mazda based Ford products of the late 90’s or early 2000’s with 54.1 hub diameter

that's precisely what I did. I have winters mounted on stock steelies, and bought some used Acura wheels for my Summers.
