2012 Fit Sport

A little backstory,

I have a developing problem where we park the car. The alley outside our garage is uphill and over the years has been filled/graded until I'm almost partially underground. Right now, I occasionally hit underneath while getting in/out.

I'm wondering if a slightly taller spring might be enough to buy enough clearance. If early CRVs were built off of Civic platforms and our cars are built off of Civic leftovers, I'm wondering if I the springs would be interchangeable.

 

I could be wrong, but I don't think the Fit shares a single part with a Civic. Nothing wrong with the Civic, but they don't share chassis parts, engine parts, or any other part with the Fit.

Spring and strut spacers would maybe work? I'd be concerned about upsetting the handling dynamics though.

 

I was thinking about lifting mine a little bit, but i think it would destroy the fuel economie to some degree. BUT the coilovers have room for adjustment to go higher if you are willing to go coilovers.

What GAFIT said is correct, the fit and the HRV shares, and i believe the CIVIC and CRV share like what he mentioned before

 

They do make springs that actually lift the fit, and not all that long ago someone on here was selling a set. Might still be available under the for sale section. A word of caution though? A GE8 at stock ride height already seems to dislike a crosswind, if you raise it, it’ll be worse.

"Tema4x4" on eBay sells strut spacers for the front and spring spacers for the rear.

I installed universal spring spacers in the front (Mr Gasket 1285, for a 1" lift) a few weeks ago and have been driving around without any noticeable negative effects. I also ordered the 30mm rear spacers from tema4x4, which I'll report back on when I have them installed.

They do have springs to lift it. keep in mind the rear, the higher you lift will cause the tow to change. For the 3rd gen GK you can use hub shims, but the 2nd generation you cannot adjust Toe.

 

The tema4x4 rear spacers arrived today, $42 shipped from Russia. One turned out to be 29mm and the other 31mm, but not a terribly noticeable difference.

I wasn't sure if it was supposed to go above or below the spring, but it seemed to fit most snugly at the top. The center hole is a bit larger than the hole in the stock rubber endpiece, but the outer diameter seems to fit within a lip with very little play.

Install went smoothly with a tad bit of spring compressor shenanigans (pictured).

 

I think I need bigger tires now. Granted, the current ones are undersized (~2% smaller diameter than stock).

 

If you're going to lift your car you need a set of Sparco Terra, OZ Legend, OZ Superturismo, Method 501 or 502 wheels to complete the look

 

I'm going to try and track down more info on the Insight springs.

Seriously -- some OEMs build Russia specific models which among other features have slightly taller, much more robust suspension. Russian roads, especially in spring = a bit holey.

 

It should be mentioned that you're referring to REAR toe. Front toe in/out is adjusted through the tie-rods.

Looks like SPC explains why the rear toe on the GE8 can't be adjusted: the spindle is permanently attached to the rear beam. Bummer.

Pretty happy with my setup so far! It's been priceless on numerous roads (usually National Forest roads) with washouts or unavoidable deep potholes. I also tend to drive too fast on rough (washboarded or potholed) gravel and haven't had any issues with durability.

 

I finally got my Jazz after a few months of debate on what I should get for the Mongol Rally. I picked up a 2010 w/ 60K miles. I'm still debating a lift (either the spacers or insight springs). I like the idea of springs better, don't really like how the spacer looks. Think I'm going to bump up my tires from 175/65/15 to 195/65/15. That's an inch larger and .8 wider, so net gain will be half that.

Any alignment or tire wear issues running the spacers?

Do you have them front and rear?
