I have not but I am considering because my trim has a few scratches on it and I wanted to replace my steering wheel to leather.

The best way to go about this is to use a wrap, which is very commonly used now a days as well. It is an easy DIY or you can take it to someone who will do it.
or
you can go about painting the whole thing but the quality and finish might not be what you think you will get.
Whatever you do keep us posted and best of luck.

hey on this topic, i need to repaint mine as well due to fading. Does the piece snap off if i pry around the edges or do i need to dismantle the steering wheel? I'm not seeing any obvious screws on it.

I recently painted my silver trim to vomit match vehicle. Milano red with 3 coats of clear. Looks awesome, and gives it a nice feel. Check my thread.

Not familiar with the process to get the trim off but I'm pretty sure the wheel itself doesnt need to come off to remove it. Access panel under the steering column or wheel, cant remember, unbolt the airbag, remove and it should pop out. Can't find the process to confirm it, I'm about 51% sure though.

Steering wheel needs to come off, there's some screws that screw into the back of it.
