Paint/Clear Coat fading on blue '09 Fit
Hey All,
Just learned about this forum surprisingly. I bought my 2009 Fit brand new and have put over 150k miles on it so far. Unfortunately the paint started fading on mine this year out of nowhere. It looks atrocious, and I was wondering what my options were. Would I be better off bringing it to the dealer, or an independent auto body shop? Have any of you had this happen? If so, what can I expect to pay to have it fixed? I threw in a couple attachments to give you an idea to the damage.
Thanks a bunch and I can't wait to get more involved with the community.

Most dealerships don't run their own body shops on their premises any more, at least not out here in California. But most have a referral service.
Base coat/ clear coat paint is what most cars have on them today. You're better off going to a reputable body shop and have them look at your paint. If the clear coat hasn't deteriorated too badly, sometimes the clear coat can be sanded down and a new base coat applied and then new multi layers of clear re-applied over the base coat and then buffed.
It's not an inexpensive process. The bumper covers, door handles, some trim and ornaments and the side mirrors have to be removed and painted/detailed before re- installation after the paint job.
