which lasts longer, and what do you all think is more effective? i’m tired of boring halogens and i heard that leds fail a lot but idk if this is true.
I have LEDs on my bike and car. Starts faster than HID, less space and setup needed, better color too and brightness for new leds are like hids.
Cheaper and more reliable than HID afaik. Less power and heat too! I had HIDs waaay way back and it always ate my battery and cant flash on others because it takes time to heat up HID. hi/lo is also a problem as it's not standard. You also need HID caps to avoid glare. LED FTW!

Which LEDs do you have for your headlights?
Mine throw off a terrible beam pattern and the high / low beams do not have much of a difference.
Here's some shots for the low beam, high beam I'll take one later! It has the same pattern as the halogen ones.
this is the one i have in my fit, it has some fans so you kinda hear it spin when you have the engine off in a very quiet place, but who the heck would want to drain their battery right? Engine on and you wont even hear the fan!
On my bike it has the fanless one. Make sure you get an LED that has the same pattern as a halogen bulb's filament placements.
Unless you open the headlights and install projectors, the cutoff won't be like HID with projectors. The reflector will just scatter the lights like if you use HID in a non projector headlight.

Believe it or not HID on reflectors is an option here from the dealer. It uses HID with caps and beam pattern passes inspection! Lol
What brand are they? I'd be interested on getting one of these.
My LED blinds incoming drivers
I think brand depends on the seller but they all get it from a generic manufacturer. I rather go to Amazon and check customer reviews than ebay because you can return it if it doesnt work well. Just make sure the filament and led chips matches location, and philips chips is great! Dont get a COB or multi sided led, just get a halogen filament pattern matched Luxeon or Philips LED. If you find the pattern bad, you can rotate the main led body to match the halogen placement inside the headlight reflectors.
The one you have ia for a projector housing h4, it has 3 sides that doesnt comply with reflectors. The other one looks promising as it has the same pattern. Just make sure it has good reviews. Usually it should be around 35 to 50 usd, above that or below are shady
i buy from amazon but every time they just blow out ughhh
I wonder why, the 2 on my motorcycle is on all the time, i ride everyday to work and it hasnt failed yet for 2yrs. Maube electrical fluctuations on your system? Or does it have fans, maybe they get rusted or dirty cant cool the leds
...to me it's not rocket science.
I want to turn on my headlights...and be able to safely see in the dark. That's it.
I think this is interesting. From the 2018 OP.
"I'm tired of boring halogens".
Really?
We're talking about light here. When did it have to become "exciting"? When was it not?
Technologies change.
Someday we might in total concert move away from Halogen Bulbs. All cars may have LED's or HID, or some as of yet unknown option. But IMO if your car came from the factory with Halogen headlights....there is a LOT of good things about them.
They create enough light. They meet standards. You can buy bulbs that are brighter but won't last as long as OEM if you wish. Compared to LED's and HID's and conversion kits, and labor, and fuses and the work involved....Halogen bulbs are cheap and easy.
To me?
I'm not converting my Honda FIt to LED or HID, just for the excitement or panache of not having Halogen. Or for the few lumens of light or slight change in light tone temperature I might get for a HID.
There are far more important things to get excited about.
in order to get HID, dun we need fuse box(?) / conversion box in order make it work without draining the battery ?
i thought LEDs are basically plug and play.
correct me if i am wrong =S
Not sure about a conversion box, but typically HIDs have a ballast that is separate. It's used to regulate the current going to the bulb since a HID bulb draws a lot more power than a halogen and LED. It can still be "plug n play", you just have to mount the ballast somewhere.
The LED bulb I chose doesn't have a fan on the heat sink like some models have. I figured the less moving parts the better. I've only had it a few months and so far so good. It's a much whiter and brighter light than any halogens I've used. It really does help being able to see more of the road and I wouldn't hesitate installing them.

Nope. The ballasts will take care of stepping up the power to run the HID’s.

I found the lights on my GE to be acceptable but really not that great. A retrofit/HID conversion would completely transform night visibility. There is a large lumen increase and better light pattern compared to the OEM setup. Definitely worth it if you do a lot of night driving especially on back roads.
