Replace pre-emptively?
Hi All,
I have a '09 Honda Fit with 212k miles (about 25k/year). Honda has recommended they change out the water pump and serpentine belt as part of the 200k maintenance. Necessary or no?
Thanks!

FWIW, I think 100k is a good time to change the belt. So, if it hasn't been done in the last 100k miles, I'd have them change it.
I've never changed a water pump before it failed (except for when I was doing a motor out rebuild), but I can see why they are recommending the replacement. It could fail at a bad time and the motor could, potentially, overheat. I would base the yes/no on the water pump based on the quote to replace. If it's like $100, I'd probably have them change it. If it's like $300, I'd skip it.

Yes, I was including labor.
That is a ton of money! Since your car is well out of warranty, you may want to find an independent import shop for the service. Yelp and Google reviews can help you find someone good in your area.
