Air Bags on/off

It is a 2009 FIT

When starting vehice (key to start position and then released)
Says, the passenger side air bag is OFF and side air bag is OFF .

All recalls were taken care of regarding Pass air bag.....

Anyway, How do I turn both of these on?
AND are they independent of one another?
Is side air bag both sides of the vehicle?

Thanks, J

Passenger side airbag stays off when there is no passenger. That side air bag is still on though.

Where does it say the side air bag is off?

I don't think you can turn this off. There is a weight sensor in the front seat in case someone were to stick a child in the front seat that did not meet the appropriate weight restrictions. The child could get more seriously injured if the air bag were to deploy.

Ok, That all makes sense......

Above radio is a small square spot.(which pops on when key is realeased from start position)
Side air bags off( is sorta near TPMS lite)[top right over the ODO]

I can have someone sit in pass seat.... see if something different happens.

THanks , J
