Driving An Out Of State car in CA.
Hey guys-Silly question but here it is..
If you dont report an out of state car to California DMV (right away,or go past their 20 day limit) do they actually have a way of knowing when your car landed in CA ? Assuming you dont get pulled over by the law..
thanks

I think it goes like this: If you get a ticket, then they have a fixed date of your presence in the state. Twenty-plus days later, you get another ticket, then they could ask some questions about residency. Just guessing on my part.

I just found this on the Ca. DMV website. It also includes a form that citizens can use to report cars that are suspected of being in the state and illegally not paying Ca. reg fees.....yes there is a form online to report out of state cars......1- Did you know that vehicle registration fees are due immediately upon accepting employment or establishing residency in the State of California? 2- Did you know that California law permits only 20 days to complete the process of registering your vehicle without paying a penalty?
3- Click here to fill out the online Cheaters form.

That is the problem with the internet - inadvertent grammar misuse leads to misunderstanding.
FWIW, I routinely see the same out of state vehicles on my commute (Arizona, Nevada, Texas) on the same highway for the past four years.
