Latest Fill-Up, Amazing Gas Mileage!
When stating average MPG is that on the basis of calculated (miles/gallons) or by the readout on the dash? I ask because the readout is optimistic if I can believe what is posted on this board.
Also, one tankful is not a real gauge. Your tank could have not been filled because the attendant was sloppy, you were on uneven ground or some other reason. When you are measuring average MPG on the basis of several tankfulls you are getting a more valid result. I would trust more the odometer mileage divided by the gallons used over the readout on the dash. I keep track of both, FWIW.
Cheers

I am not sure one can trust the mpg sensor. I am not sure how it works, but there is a 5mpg discrepancy between my calculations and what the computer says.
While driving my car, I got 45 mpg on the computer and close to 39 with my calculations. I expect more after the break in period and if I switch to synthetic.
I am pretty sure that you can potentially get the 45mpg if you drive at 50-55 mpg (steady speed).

I'm getting 35.1 mpg, with a ten mile round trip non-highway commute. I take it on the highway every Sunday for about a hundred miles round trip, with bikes attached.
This is calculated, as I have noticed the mpg meter reads quite a bit higher than actual.

the reason the prius is so expensive is because of the engine, hybrids are relatively new technology that is constantly being refind to produce fewer emissions and get better mpg. all new technology is expensive, but as more people buy it the price drops no matter what it is. but yeah i'm averaging about 7 L/100km in town and about 5ish on the highways.
A few summers ago, my girl and I got 47.7 MPG in her 00 Civic EX. This was coming home from vacation in south carolina. It was warm and in the morning. All highway driving. I was sorta shocked when I figured out that number (yes, I know I figured it out right, I did the calculation three times).
it's really not that difficult to get amazing highway mileage. it's just that too many people drive really fast and/or aggressive. i hate it when I see people in prius's (or is it priui?) drive 90mph or hard accelerate light to light.
