Recently enhanced the related repair history survey so that it can (optionally) be used as a personal car maintenance record.

As always, more participants would be helpful. Updated Car Reliability Survey results in May.

Thanks for joining.

"Nothing to report" is actually something to report. It's just as important to learn when a car has required no repairs if you want to accurately report the average. If people only responded when they had "something to report," all cars would look terribly unreliable.

You know, like they often do on forums

We've updated the results for the Fit to include owner experiences through March 31, 2010. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2010: 62, about average and unusually high for a Fit; sample size barely reached the minimum for a full result; tire pressure monitors are the most commonly reported problem area; should improve in future updates

2009: 11, better than average

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

For the 2009, the percentage with no repairs is about 94, while the percentage of lemons is less than one. These are extremely reliable cars.

A big thank you, once again, to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in August and November. Excellent participation by Fit owners. The more owners participate, the more precise the results. Especially need more for 2010 and up.

I just got the e-mail. I'm very surprised to see the huge increase in trips/year with the 2010 models; perhaps the average will go down as the sample size increases.

As stated in the post, I do expect the repair frequency to go down for the 2010s in future updates.

Updated stats in a couple of weeks.

I'm especially interested in seeing what happens with the result for the 2010 with more data.

Additional participants always helpful.

No problem here 36K

Maintaining this car is boring. You do nothing but add fuel, change oil and filters and rotate tires. I have taken the necessary precautions and put gutter guard over the fog lights and radiator to minimize flying rock damage-a great(low cost) idea to put on all your vehicles and bikes.

We've updated the results for the Fit to include owner experiences through June 30, 2010.

Other sources of car reliability information won't cover the more recent months until the summer or even fall of next year.

Repair frequencies, in terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year:

2010: 41, about average and high for a Fit; tire pressure monitors are the most commonly reported problem area; should continue to improve in future updates

2009: 9, better than average

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

For the 2009, the percentage with no repairs is about 94, while the percentage of lemons is less than one. These are extremely reliable cars.

Thank you, once again, to this forum and everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in November and February. Excellent participation by Fit owners.

I joined.. no problems or complaints at 3200 miles. I'll start plugging in gas mileage data one of these days.. I've got it recorded from the first fill up.

I think I have the worse driving situation a FIT can ever have...

1st change oil is under 2500 miles
average mpg: is way under 20 (15 as it's worse)

I'll let you know how the Fit holds up...

Over 100k already? Do you ever stop driving to eat or sleep?

Next week we'll start previewing the next set of results to participants. The preview results will be updated as responses come in.

As always, the more owners participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone.

Starting this month we have a new question to measure, as objectively as possible, the severity of a problem. Many people have been asking for reliability stats that weight problems by how severe they are, and once we have enough responses with the revised survey we'll start providing this.

Also, updated reliability stats this month.

As always, the more owners participate, the better the information we can provide to everyone.

That's a GREAT idea! I always thought the survey should distinguish between a small problem like fixing a glove box rattle or updating the MPG computer from something serious like say, catastrophic engine failure.

Also, I'm still a bit confused as to what constitutes a reportable repair. I'm browsing the 2009 Fit repair history, and I'm seeing stuff like "needed wheel alignment" and "windshield cracked" and "tire had a bulge"... can you clarify?

(I guess this is one of the difficulties in getting reliable data ).
