no battery indicator on my 09 fit sport

I did a jump start this morning and was advised to change the battery. I checked the manual and then for the first time noticed that there is a battery incidicator as described. However, I did not see it on my battery. A picture of it is attached. The ridiculous thing is that the indicator instruction label is there but no indicator.

Is this normal? This is the original battery since I bought my 09 fit sport as new from dealer. I bought it in 1/09, so it already passed the warranty.

The indicator is under the cap, just unscrew it and look.

thanks for the info. I thought it was under the cap, tried to unscrew it with a quarter, but it seems to be very tight. so I gave up as I did not know what it is for. Now I am going to try again.

yes, I think i need to clean it, but my battery is over 3 years now, so I am considering if I should just get a new one. the battery got a jump start this morning (coz i forgot to turn off the map light overnight), and i was advised to change the battery. the battery running out and the jump start will shorten the battery life, right?

Running a battery low can damage it. But I would get it tested rather than automatically getting it changed. Auto parts stores will test batteries for free.

Get it tested. Ours was dead after 3 years of regular use. It needed jumpstarting a few times before it completely died.

I replaced it with a Miata battery. There's a writeup around here somewhere. Saved $60 over an OEM-fitment battery.
