you dont need to take them apart to do this, vinyl goes on the outside. and the ones on ebay have a regular bulb not led's like in that pic. I can almost 100% guarantee that those are smoked depos full led with red film on top and bottom,.

 

O really? Thought they might look weird on the outside...but i guess it depends how you do it. Thanks for the info I'll have to keep my eye out on cheap depo lights on ebay. Got any recommendations for other places to look?

 

I am not sure about alternate sources but the cheapest ive seen is like 160ish on ebay, which imo is good.
