wtb: carbon fiber goodies/seats

ok so i just got beat by my best friends new abarth fiat 500. its time for me to throw down a little cash to make sure this doesn't happen again. im gonna start doing some weight reduction/anthing i can do to help my chances next time. and honestly i havent done anything to the fit in a while and im getting bored anyway. im also looking for a decent set of racing seats. im tired of my skinny ass sliding all over the place when we go ride back roads. please keep in mind im no millionaire. thanks guys

CF parts that we have now don't drop weight enough to make much difference. I mean the hood only weighs what? 10-15 lbs? Not worth the $275 or so for the CF hood. You could remove the spare tire and jack and the back seats too. That would probably net you about 150 pounds or so. Pulling the front seats and putting in a couple of racing buckets at about 7 kg each you'd probably save about 50 more pounds I'm guessing. After that I guess if you really want to go ham you could pull the AC and save some weight there too. Or you could just turn off the AC when you are trying to go fast. It makes a noticeable difference.

In the end though, You're trying to race something that has 160 hp (at the crank I'm assuming) when you only have 117 (also at the crank) hp. Also it's a tiny car weighing it at 2,500 which is right around the same as a fit. That's about a power:weight of .06 vs your .047. You'd need to loose over 500 lbs to have an equal power:weight.

Good luck but if straight line is your game, you're not in the best car unless you go FI and put up some bigger HP numbers.

haha im not expecting to beat him just losing weight. i just want to be able to compete so i dont have to listen to his big head. oh and FI is definitely in the plans. and like i said im getting bored too and i dont really ever see much for sale for the ge. so i thought maybe i could get some sellers to surface if they knew someone was interested.

Ah well, still you're going to need to loose a lot of weight. Lighter rims and tires will help a good bit. After that my suggestion is pull the spare tire and jack and the back seats, if they aren't needed, to loose as much weight as possible before moving to bigger things.

Besides a hood what carbon fiber parts are you looking for? i highly doubt there are any full replacement carbon fiber parts that'll actually let you save weight, such as a full door, or fender.
