Expert Advice Needed

I want to replace the rims on my base 09 Fit but reuse the P175/65R15 tires because I'm cheap. The old steel rims will be used for snow tires in the winter. Can someone please tell me if these rims will work without any size issues such as...
1 - Is the 6.5" width okay?
2 - How about the Offset at 40mm?
3 - What about the 5.31" Backspacing?
4 - Are there any cautions that I should be aware in general?

I posed this same question to the Tirerack and they were very helpful. Basically a 175 tire will not mount properly on any rim wider than 6 inches. The factory steelies are 5.5" and their alloys are 6". However the alloys are recommended for use with a 185/55/16 tire which are not too common.

Did Tirerack mention anything about the 40 offset. That's pretty low. I would recommend at least 45. Especially if you plan on lowering the car. You may clear but it would suck to order in wheels all the way from the states, pay duties, and then find out they don't fit. I'm only speaking from my experience. I have ran with an offset less than 45 and clearance can be pretty close depending on the design of the wheel.

I would recommend these, they're a lot lighter, cost about the same, and have more offset.

I was looking at the 16" HFP 07/08 Fit wheels to put on my 2009 Fit with 205/50/16 tires. Having the Canadian model, I don't have to worry about TPMS.

(Part#: 08W16-SLN-100)

**They have a 55 offset**

1) Will I need to use spacers?
2) Will they look "sucked in" from the fender?
3) Will they rub the suspension or anywhere else?

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated greatly.

Thanks again.

Okay so I did some digging. It looks like the 2009 Fit has a +55 offset on the base 15x5.5J wheels. So if I increase the width by an inch with the same offset then I'll be splitting the difference. In other words, it will stick in and out by an additional 1/2 inch from where the factory wheel is now.

So the final question is... What is the recommended tire size for the 16x6.5J wheel?

205/50 or 185/55? They both will result in the same 24" diameter on a 16" rim. Can someone please comment on their experience with a similar setup.

Thanks, olias

I would go with 205/50R16.

same here...you also get a bit of rim protection from curbs by going with the 205. I run 205's on all my 15" wheels as they all have 6.5 or 7" widths.

These are the ones I was looking at... so they fit with no rub issues? Also, how is the handling?

the help in handling is minimum, stiffing up the chassis will be your only real help. this car is very unstable imo.when it gets windy in the storm season here then i can tell if the tires helped. they do not rub,not even close enough to rub.

So here is what they look like with Yokohama 205/50's.

The handling is noticeably better. The tire is the Avid ENVigor which is an 87V. The tire pressure is currently at 35psi but I'm not too sure as to what the best pressure would be.

That's good to know but I'll probably try to sell the OEM Dunlop tires. They only have 4,000 miles on them. I'm going to use the steel rims for snow tires. I'm loving the handling of these Yokohama 205's. Here are some more pictures...

Yep it looks really good.... If you drive where you aren't likely to scrape you should lower it some, it would look great if you do.... I only scraped my front lip 3 times today and I don't have much drop at all.... The GEs don't have it as bad as the the GDs do when it comes to ground clearance
