Previous rims and tires:
15x6.5 38 offset 205/55/15 tires absolutely no rubbing
15x6.5 45 offset 205/50/15 tires absolutely no rubbing
15x6.5 38 offset 205/60/15 rubbed very badly. Torn my liners to shreds!

I'm not sure why the all the variances but maybe it's because I drive my car on all kinds of roads loaded and empty and maybe some people here don't. Hope that helps.
15x6.5 38 offset 205/55/15 = 23.9 inches (Closest to stock size @ 24.0)
15x6.5 45 offset 205/50/15 = 23.1 inches
15x6.5 38 offset 205/60/15 = 24.7 inches OUCH!

anybody know if it's possible to run a 16x7.0 ET35mm in the rear of a GE8?

Y'know I'm actually getting pretty curious about trying out a +40-offset wheel myself. In case I decide my current GD8 OEM wheels aren't my style any more, the most likely wheel I'd be getting is a Rota and they don't make a lot of +45 wheels these days...at least not for local distribution. Most of their new stuff nowadays is +40 and I'm not in the mood to organize a group buy just to get the coveted "foolproof" +45 offset.

Big hmmmm.

Should be okay in the rear, because there are a handful of people run 42-45 with a 10mm rear spacer. It's the front that will rub first anyways (I think.)

offset

hey i've got GD and got a set of 17x7 with 42mm offset with tanabe spring. had some issues with rubbing but fixed it with the fender liner trick. dont know if you can do it with the GE but i just pushed the liner up off the fender. still have a rub here and there on big bumps

on those rims you should run a 205/40. there would be no rubbing at all.

my rims are 17x7 +40 and thats what i have them wrapped in. no issues yet, and i plan on getting some coilovers to do some fine tuning lowering

And before people lambaste me for posting here: For a GE, 17x7 +43 won't rub. Tried and tested on EK3 Ferio's GE6. The wheels in question were RAYS Gram Lights G07WTs.

maybe there are some structural suspension differences between the GE6 and my GE8 but I have almost the exact same set up (17x7 42 offset w/ 205/45/17 tires) and there is definitely rubbing.

EDIT: I see you didn't mention lowering so maybe that's it. I'm dropped on sportlines and if you're not lowered than that might explain it.

i'm lowered on T1R S-coils, stock rims, 195/55/R16's and my fronts rub like mad.

when i first had it lowered, i had 185/55/R16's(stock tires) and they would rub on big bumps.

so has anyone really found a good set up, that doesn't rub?

i plan to drop to 15's next summer, with some konig retracks, which i believe are +40? please correct me if i'm wrong. should i stick with 185 or wha?

these offsets and shit are very confusing to me....

Aside from the springs your sidewall which is 45 is probably what was the main factor in your rubbing. your 42 offset would set your tire right flush with the front fenders so the added diameter of the tire was the culprit.

in most cases lowering springs will cause rubbing unless ur going with a shopping cart style like fitDeez was rocking recently with those 15's

thats why i decided to save up for coilovers so i can fine tune it perfectly and add camber using the pillowmounts if necessary. id rather not roll/pull so this is my best bet.

Also what will probably help with people rubbing is getting tires stretches which causes a curvature to the side wall rather than the usual 90degree-ish-ness of a typical sidewall to the tread

so for something that is like a 17x7 that would usually use a 205/40, i would say try a 185/45??? and get them stretched. DONT QUOTE me on this thought because i have no actual idea what appropriate stretching rates are, just guessing, but from what ive seen it workes when u have a lower offset and have some slight rubbing issues.

ok thats my .02 for now

Nope stretching tires is a big no no for me. I like to drive safely plus I hate the way it looks. I'm just going to get everything rolled and pulled then I will have a lot more of a selection of wheel sizes and offset. It's a lot cheaper than buying coil overs for a car I use as a DD.

Here in the next week I will be running -

16x8.5 +20s and 16x9 +14s with 205 40 16s all around... Ill make sure to let you guys know what was needed to drive w/out rubbing... Even though rubbing doesnt upset me...

I plan on rolling front and rear and removing fender liners... Of course camber about
-2/-3 in the front and FML I cannot camber in the rear... so Ill have to either split the welds and have a machine shop fabricate my camber or order the rear from Japan... I could always pull the rear enough to fit them but Im not sure if the spring rates on my D2 coilovers will be enough to keep it from hitting the fender... We shall see...
