Tire Rack shows only 1 tire in 195/40/16 - the Yokohama S.drive.

It has an overall diameter of 22.1, while stock 185/55/16 tires are 24.2 - that's over 2 inches shorter, and will play havoc with gearing, ride height, and sidewall protection for alloy wheels.

There are 6 tires in 205/40/16, giving a better selection. But the B.F.Goodrich g-force T/A KDW 2 (the best rated) has an overall diameter of 22.4, which still is too small, IMHO.

Maybe you were thinking he had 17" wheels? Then a 195/40/17 is 23.1 in diameter - not too bad, and a 205/40/17 is 23.5 - even better.

I assumed you were lowering it =/. Sorry!

205/40/16 is perfect for my set-up, especially since my fenders will be flush with the lip of the wheels... To each his own though mate

If the wheel is a lower offset then stock, and rubs, smaller tires are the only way to go...

Go with Toyo Proxes if you decide on 205/40 - Great tires!

He is lowered and may want/need to go with the sizes you recommend, I was just mentioning possible negative side effects... that's why I added the IMHO!

IMO - The only neg. effects of running a smaller tire is the spedometer being off... Other than that, all is normally fine Now I can list a LONG ass list of reasons not to lower your car, but I still do it anyway

It also affects final drive and like bungle said the protection of the wheels.

Now if you care about style more than those things, then you know which way to go lol

Depends on the vehicle :P... For a Supra or high performance vehicle Function > Form... For a Fit or any other economical car where performance isnt really attained - Form > Function

Thumbs down

Someone posted about the BFG KDW2's being "best rated" by Tire Rack, well, when they're relatively new, yeah, but when they get some miles on them the car sounds like it needs wheel bearings, even my g/f who knows nothing about cars noticed how loud they were, terrible tire....no more

Yeah, I know the Tire Rack "best-rated" doesn't mean much. I personally wouldn't consider them because they're so freakin' heavy, anyway!

At 22lbs each in 205/50/16, that's 3lbs more than the Conti DWS, and that's at the outer edge of the wheel/tire combo - where it has the most negative influence.

For the Fit, we need every performance tweak we can get since there are so few engine mods available. Less rotating weight is a great place to start.
