Yokohama AVID ENVigor 205/50-16 installed today

Called my local respectable tire shop today about the tires, they said should get them in the shipment for Monday... Called back 10 minutes later said they managed to get it on todays shipment so new treads today! Bye bye Dunflop 7000's, ready to be tossed at 23000 miles.

I'll post back later with my impressions.

Heck yeah!

What a difference proper tread makes, after leaving the shop I took it for a drive down town for some slow speed testing, took it to the interstate, very noticeably less drifting at high speed, quieter, and a lot smoother. Very happy

I guess the MPG hit was expected but it was a pretty big hit.

Down from (the same interstate) 36.7MPG average at 75mph cruise, to 32.8. I'll take the tires performance over those crap pizza cutters.

Tires are doing great, I actually found out why I was getting an extreme difference in mpg. One of my two tire pressure gauges was off by 7psi LOW, I was running the tires at 29psi or so, after adjusting to 36-37 they are getting the same as stock I feel.

It would be awesome if you provided some updated MPG numbers after you discovered your low tire pressure. I'm a few thousand miles away from deciding what gets to replace my stock dunloops.

It is pretty user specific but with the dunlops i get about 41-44mpg town (I don't live in the city) and 36.5-37mpg interstate @ about 70-75mph 5th gear. And I'm getting to within a very tight percentage of that so I'm happy.

Little update on these, due to the wider .75-.8" tread, and being lowered, I have scrubbed the front fender liners a few times on high speed dips, no signs of damage of any kind but one awful sound it makes.

@RevToTheRedline:

so..these are pretty wide for the stock tire size...you dont feel like...i dunno, like if you take a turn to hard these are just going to flip right off? is 205 on the stock wheel as wide as we can go? i would love to put tires this size on my ge, i just didnt think at this size they'd be ok...despite the pictures my eyes are telling me i'm seeing lol.

Heh, these aren't that wide and its what everyone uses as an upgrade to the stock Dunflops, with the stock 185/55-16 you have 2 tire options, crap and crappier. 205/50-16 is well within the factory recommendation for fitment on a 16x6" rim, there is a reason why it requires a huge hydraulic machine to remove a tire. It would take a turn at 100mph with 10psi in the tires to dismount a tire from a rim, and you just don't go around driving like that. 205/50-16 is only like 3/4 of an inch wider than stock that's only like 3/8" additional tread on each side of the rim.

205 is probably the widest you'd wanna go on the fit without rolling the fenders, I rub sometimes but I am lowered.

yeah, our stock tire sizes dont have a whole lot of options. i'm on discount tire direct, and was checking out the hankook ventus v2, has gotten stellar reviews, and it just so happens to be less than 300 bucks for a set of four tires with the promo they are running right now, in a 205/50/r16 size.

surprisingly they offer this tire in the stock size too, but the 205's are cheaper. and i'm not gonna lie, i would love having a contact patch that big on my fit...your pics looks fantastic, and those tires wonderfully meaty.

i'm on stock suspension, so i'm not worried about rubbing. 205's seem to be pretty popular for our stock wheels, but thanks for the extra assurance!
