3rd Gen GK Specific Fit Engine Modifications, Motor Swaps, ECU Tuning Sub-ForumThreads discussing engine mods/swaps/tuning for the third generation GK Honda Fit.
Finally received the exhaust cam gear and put the rest of the head together. Block is STILL at the builder. Main bearings had to be ordered from dealer, so, with more time to waste i crinkle painted my valve cover for that Integra Type R look. It's not perfect but I do have another one .
Beautiful build, that red reminds me of the old K Series tuners. Super envious! Thanks for the progress photos!
I ordered another RZCrew GK5 intake this time with bolt pattern for honda s2k 64.5 mm manifold side, 70mm air cleaner side. Decided to make my own cold air intake. I'm deleting the AC and I'm going to add brake cooling ducting when I have the bumper off. I'll assess future intercooler pathways while I'm in there... should have some intake pics next week. Block is still at golden eagle. Thrust washers this time lol yay fit!!!
Blow up that pic! Dayum!!! It was a pain to guess what to take to Precision who are dialing in my cam, but i know now That's how that all goes against the block, not the front cover, so i have to think in reverse... Decided to take the oil pump off and let them install since i have no idea on torque values I took some hard looks at the new hardware vs the OG. This thing is going to make a lot of power in the high rpms. You can probably see where GE Drilled the crank for balancing... or maybe honda did and i didn't notice? The ARP fasteners are stout... I used the flex plate in a previous photo with two flywheel bolts to turn the motor to install the piston oil squirters. Just unpacked Nice packaging Here's my intake pipes. Might install before the motor if the rzcrew intake gets here in time... I just measured and bought all this. I got an extra foot of silicone tube because i wasn't sure how much aluminum would extend from the 90s on these 4.5" radii. 3" pipe and filter... I chopped the plastic maf ledge off the stock air box and epoxied it on. Same with the intake to valve cover nipple. Will tap 6" out from throttle body for the methanol injection next. After cutting before paint
The ARP hardware, the bottom end looks fantastic. And those pistons with the custom DI plume bowl and everything. This engine is goddamn beautiful, sense chills down my spine. I am looking forward to seeing this thing when it comes to life!
Ok I'll try to get my engine out this weekend. Front end is off! I've got a few surprises left for the build... Something shiny is going in here. I got the ac out. The new belt is approx 10" shorter without ac, if my measurements are correct, we'll see.... Over here, I'll bolt on my custom lower intake pipe and 3" knn cone filter...
I'm going to have to punt getting it tuned in PA. Moving to San Antonio and losing the world's greatest garage with lift. Bought a half acre lot so will build a new shed...

Reason: Double post
Ok I'll try to get my engine out this weekend. I picked it up from Precision Tuesday. Mike and the guys were great. He set the timing completely including valve lash. All I have to do is bolt on the covers and the tranny and reinstall once it's out. He did all the valve measurements requested by web cam for their bisimoto stage 3 grind and it had plenty of clearance with VTEC activated including the PPR head with 2mm exhaust 1mm intake oversized valves. They fit the Traum 12.5:1 custom pistons on maxpeeding rods perfectly! He said I added too much honda bond on the end caps (none required) which would have burnt up the cam journals is my guess, yeesh. Be careful guys!

The wilwoods were on back order so I guess i can mount the 15x9s but again that's secondary to getting the damn engine in there!!! Going to shake her down at circuit of the America's in Austin TX this summer. Very nervous about driving a totally new race car that looks just like my old street car....
So sick man! Hope your back gets better soon! Once everything is done and finished let us know how much we should be looking at if we decide to build an NA L series.
It's not as bad as I thought but I do have two fit engines in disrepair in my garage... I need to go buy Golden Eagle and Web Cam compliant break in oil, I think just straight 30W Valvoline. Need to trade in my Duralast Gold battery at AZ, and get an oil filter. PCV valve looked fine. The injectors were an interesting puzzle. There's a clip I accessed from below to free the grip on the injectors. It all came off as one so who knows, maybe I just had to pull harder... I rigged a bracket last time to torque the flywheel bolts but I couldn't figure out where lines up. Punch drunk too much caffeine. Oh, peep the new gear!!! Been looking for an all aluminum thick core radiator for a minute... Also got the metal under panel. Replaced the thermostat Rebuilt the water pump - 2 gaskets The injectors on the old motor. My brake duct tubing snuck in on the upper right. Wish those wilwoods made it... Another
tomorrow I swap on the tranny, so to speak
Custom downpipe? Also which throttle did you end up settling with? 65mm?
Race plate looks like a good idea, might be a little heavier to remove for oil changes but rugged and ventilated . Also race-ready cooling, I know I asked about it once way back and was told it's not needed. This baby's gonna be endurance track ready with that kind of cooling!
Edit: Just saw you posted better photos of the downpipe lol
Engine and transmission are ready to be mounted. I am waiting on the melling pressurized oil prelude. Precision Machine who took all the cam spec measurements, mounted the head, and set the timing, told me to take off the oil pressure sensor and inject two quarts of oil at 20psi. This fills the timing tensioner with oil and prevents the chain from skipping a tooth which he has seen happen. $200 of insurance. Hit me up when y'all build one . I also ordered Lucas 30W racing break in oil.
in the mean time, I'll mount the ram air, block that off a bit for a box, and run the brake ducting. Also have to transfer all the radiator bits... busy busy
p.s. new clutchmasters 8 puck stage 4 clutch and pressure plate. Stock flywheel since ktuner hasn't added the misfire delete feature yet. Will miss the snappy revs...
If I pull an all nighter tomorrow night I think I might be able to fire her up Friday evening... Eliminating EGR and throttle body cooling AC Delete just an out and back The secondary fuel pump runs off the exhaust cam. A savvy person could modify the fuel cam lobe for increased pressure but i didn't ask web cam. Next time... Eliminated all EGR hardware. At least 5lbs probably more, and high center of gravity The super custom cold air intake part 1 From inside 3" mandrel bent pipe I had an extra plastic inner well and i chopped up the best bits and made an air box Another
Putting in the man hours... Filling up the melling oil pre lubricator with Lucas Oil 30W racing break in oil. Last look at the oversize intake valves Drilled on the wrong side of the pipe... I'm not as far to the left as i wanted to be... The way its going on Assembled From inside From above Another From the front All aluminum double sized radiator From the front. No AC parts hindering the cooling flow Getting close...
tomorrow, axles, downpipe. Oil catch can maybe, new battery thank you autozone warranty. Fill radiator fluid, prelube again in case the tensioner drains, shifter cables, brakes and coil overs. Ready to start!
It lives!!!
unfortunately it runs like crap. Started it 3X and ran for like a minute each time before it started having very lean AFR. On the third run I got the flashing check engine so. Bottom line, I need a tuner...
This looks amazing!! Gonna tear up the track! Lol hope you get her remapped soon, wow I hope the fuel system you’ve gots enough, I know there’s no way it’s burning 3x the fuel but looking forward to seeing it purr!
Is there any ram air effects of your intake setup like that? Or just cold air for now?
Edit: one other question, how’s your MAF setup? Any photos?
