I finally ordered an aftermarket antenna for the Fit. I got it on Ebay for under $5.00. The antennas come with screw adapters for different cars. I got one that said it fit Hondas. Simple 1 minute install. Lots of choices for different colors and styles. Can go back to stock if I ever want to. Here is a picture of antenna mounted.

Got a chance to try out reception away from the city today. All OK, Seems to work as well as the stock antenna. It is only slightly shorter than the stock one. They make some that are really short like 2 inches but I do not know how well they will do.
