I asked about hydraulic hood struts a while ago, and someone pointed me toward eBay. They were just $22 for a pair, and they installed in about ten minutes. It took a little over a month for them to arrive from Taiwan. The picture below is from eBay, but it could just as well be my car.
They do not hold the hood open as high as the stick does, if that matter to you. Aside from that, they look and work fine. Be aware that the 10mm bolts on the hood hinge are very tight. When you tighten the bolt onto the strut bracket, that bracket will tend to turn with the bolt, so be prepared for that. I've been waiting four years for these things to become available,and I'm glad I finally got them installed.
