Cargo cover issue 2016 Honda Fit EX

I search the thread but this post never got the answer.

https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/3rd-generation-2015/96458-cargo-cover-issues-2.html

It seems like the cargo cover has a 1/4" gap and if it slide either left or right on each side it will fall off the mount point. It have to sit dead center to make it work. I have to put a zip tie to the round post to use as a spacer in both end so it won't slide left and right. Then it will sit center without dropping off. Anyone else have issue? I got the cover from Honda OEM dealer
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-OEM-Honda-Fit-Black-Cargo-Cover-2015-2018-Rear-Shelf/111436847154?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_tr ksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 and they assure me it fit.

Anyone have issue? Part# 84400-T5R-C01ZA

Thanks

Is your clip section looks the same? What year is your Fit?

I don't know.
My 2016 Cargo Cover fits down on pegs with a L shaped bracket. Then you pull the cargo cover towards you and it more or less locks into place.
There can be a gap between the back edge and the seat backs IF you don't recline the back seats back. But otherwise I don't notice any gaps, especially any gaps side to side.
Mine more or less locks in, and doesn't slip off anything.
If yours needs zip ties, and has gaps on both sides, then something isn't right.
I can't tell from the pictures...are those rotated?
Sounds like the total fitment isn't right.
If you bought this on E-Bay, I'd be suspicious that perhaps you don't have the right cover for the right year, regardless of what the Ad may of said.
But it's ONLY a suspicion.

I'll test mine and see if it has anything like your issue.
But I don't think I can get mine to fall off the pegs by moving it side to side.

As far as gap goes, if the gap is what you are showing in your first photo?
I would think that would be within acceptable tolerances. I can't see anything.
Since it IS a moving part, raising up and down, you need a little space to keep it from rubbing on the plastic on the sides.

The strange thing is you say it falls off the posts.
It shouldn't do that.

here is a video. Once i lock it in place if i move the cover to one side, the other side will slide off. Still dunno why it short .25 inch on both side.

Wow...
I checked mine, and I don't have any play from side to side, so the cover stays on the pegs.
But those video's are illuminating. Although, I don't get what the second video is suppose to be showing. Just looks like the hinge sitting on the peg to me. Obviously Honda has a problem, but since feedback seems so rare, I'm guessing it's pretty uncommon.

As much as Honda charges for the cover, they should be built to fit...correctly.

Since you bought the piece on E-Bay, I don't know what recourse you might have available.

I wish someone could compare, like pieces and measurements, just to see exactly what the difference is....
Are the covers not wide enough?
Or are the pegs too short, or not installed consistently?
That's horrible workmanship.

I feel lucky now that mine is OK.
Sorry for anyone who has this problem.

Folks. Can someone help me take a measurement on the distance between the opening edge of one end to the other? I suspected my car was half inches wider? Or the cover is not built correctly?

Can the shelf part be moved? Maybe it just needs to be adjusted closer. I think they just pop off.

Looks like a different cargo cover resolve the issues. apparently these are made cheaply by some type of fiberboard resin type. The workmanship itsnt great. Looks like this one I have was molded .25 shorter.

A replacement from other dealer works perfected.

I guess over the years Honda parts are being made cheaply now.

I wouldn't necessarily come to that conclusion.
This is about the ONLY thread I can find where somebody has had the problem you had.

If it was at all a common defect, we'd have much more evidence of it's repeated happening.

So far, nobody else has posted to say they have had a similar problem.

I think it much more a case of 1 damaged or poorly made cover, than evidence of a mass problem with manufacturing.

I come to that conclusion because the Type R I have now has a lot of defect in the material and the interior does not hold up as well. Even factory replacement parts from Honda are defective. I understand the cover issue could be a one off issue.... (i.e. Steering Wheel replacement, 2nd one from Honda parts and the dealer said it is bad, they have to order a 3rd one to get a good quality one)

Cargo cover

I have a 2017 Fit - with cargo cover. It fit fine when I purchased the car, but recently every time I opened the trunk it would fall off. I went back to dealership and they replaced it since it was still under warranty. It seemed like it shrunk somehow and wouldn't stay on the pegs on the side of the trunk area.
The new one is snug, just like it was when I bought the car. Also, my daughter has the same problem with her 2017 Fit. It seems like it's about .25 inches too short. Her cover also fit fine when the car was purchased. They also replaced her cover under warranty.

Same problem

I have a 2017 Fit. I got my cover from the dealer and have the exact same problem. Since it seems uncommon I'll see if I can get a warranty replacement

This was an "option" for 2015 in my area and I decided to not get it for the high price they charge. Got rear windows tinted instead. Generally difficult for outside to see into the cargo area.

Ditto, plus the side windows. It's Florida, so the tint allowed is dark. You can't see in.

Hi folks,

New 2016 Honda Fit LX owner, first post!

My Fit didn't come with the cargo cover and my wife is wanting the feature; but I don't feel like paying for one when I've got a stock of 1/8 plywood kicking around I could easily through throw the saw to make my own. I'm wondering if some kind soul could take measurements and save me trying to fit myself in the trunk to get an accurate fit?

Thanks!
