Rattle at idle. I'd check the motor mounts and any heat shielding around the exhaust. Something rattling or vibrating when the car is not in motion suggests engine or exhaust.

The factory injectors make a ton of noise at idle with the hood popped.

2018 so it should still be under warranty.
So when the dealership said "it was coming from the engine" did they have any other further illumination or ideas?

Because if it is an abnormal rattle, caused by something in or around the engine, they should be working to identify it, and then fix it. A diagnosis of "it seems to be coming from the engine" should stay at the Gas Station in Mayberry with Goober and Gomer Pyle.

I would try another dealership, and try to get a better definition. If it's something simple, like motor mounts and/or heat shielding a good technician should be able to figure that out. If it's more complicated, they need to track it down and fix it while it's still under warranty.

Warranty

It has 65,000 miles on it already. I don't think warranty would cover it. I will call to see if it will. That dealership was charging me $150 for diagnostics. Since the check engine light inst on I don't believe it was worth it. I will upload a video of the noise today.

Pop the hood and check to see if there's anything in the fan - leaves, debris, etc.

I'd also check the inside air filter. You can get to it by dropping the glove box - push the back sides inward to let it drop.

The fan could be hitting something, or the bearings could be going. You should be under warranty if its the bearings.

Many years ago I had an old car where the fan bearing was going. I took the fan out and added some oil to the front bearing which was exposed and that solved the noise problem for a few years at which point I scrapped the car.

my cabin fan rattles sometimes. i dont care enough to figure out what's stuck in it, and what ever it is, it finds a way out from time to time and the noise stops. However it's only present when the fan is on. For science, you should check the cabin fan, I agree with KidSatanTX. Or add video to thread, people may be able to help more.

It's the heat shield

2018 Honda Fit Sport 6spd. It's the heat shield under the exhaust manifold and right above the passenger axle. It's bolted to the engine block with THREE 12mm bolts. The shield has this weird spacer that kind of looks like a bushing actually with some wire mesh. It's stupid, and the bolts don't hold them well. My suggestion (what I did) is torque each bolt as hard as you can without snapping off the bolt head. I tried to use an extra washer, but it still didn't hold the shield well. It just got in the way. So just torque each bolt down hard until the shield no longer has any play. I figured this out today when I noticed a weird rattling noise a couple of months ago. I had to get under the car today to work on the brakes so figured I'd take off the splash shield and see if there was anything loose causing a rattle. The heat shield was very loose. After super tightening each bolt, the rattle is gone. You're welcome.

This is it!
I had the same issue and was able to identify it by poking around with a piece of wood and listening for the rattling sound to stop when I put pressure on different parts.
