P0420 Cautionary Tale - Catalyst or Leak
My 2015 LX-mt (180,000km/112,000mi) recently threw a P0420 code and since it was coming due for an oil change, I decided to try a different Honda dealership (I got tired of my original dealership leaving the engine undershield hanging loose after service). New dealership quoted CAN$2200.00 plus tax for a replacement catalyst [consternation]. Declined and took the car to a trusted muffler shop, because I could just detect a faint exhaust odor in the car at start-up. Sure enough, the flex coupling gasket was leaking, and fixed for $120.00 . They cleared the code yesterday and it hasn't come back.
So once again a Honda dealer has treated me like a walking bag of cash to be exploited.
Check for leaks!

I've stopped going to Markham Honda. Wasn't too happy with a few things with them including some tech disabling and leaving my dashcam disabled.
I went to Action Honda once and was astonished that my oil change took less than 30 min. Markham Honda took over an hour and I was the first appointment!

Still no codes, and it's noticeably quieter, so I realize how it got gradually louder over time. It is an MT so much harder on its motor mounts and exhaust joints.
Thanks for the suggestion but I'm not a Whatsapp user.
Has anyone in your groups done valve clearance yet?
