My house got raided and they took my OEM head unit (I have an aftermarket one installed) and planned to put it back in when I sold the car. Will any salvaged OEM head unit work plug n play? Or do I have to get one from the dealer? I need to put it on my insurance claim.

Yeah I saw that but I see people selling them so I was curious if anyone had any experience replacing one because it broke or smashed screen or what not.

 

I called up Honda and they really don't know anything about it. When I unplugged my head unit to do some work, it did ask for a code after that and I was able to retrieve it via VIN online if memory serves me correctly. So theoretically as long as you have the right code it should work IMO.
Anyway the dealer says a re-manufactured one is $557 + $500 core and a new one is $4,498. Not sure how a new one can cost 1/4 the car's sticker price, that's insane!

I'm going to check with a part seller and see what they say if it comes with a code, etc.
