Flashing Gear Light - Not flashing D!

Hello everyone! I’ve scoured the internet since this problem started last August and have found nothing similar. In my 2015 CVT when I first start the car the gear indicator will display normally for the first 10 seconds or so (steady P, or R as I leave my driveway) but will then light up with all letters and flash.

I’ve had the codes checked and nothing comes up. The transmission runs perfectly, no problems there. My AC died maybe a week before the flashing light, on the off chance they’re related. No other symptoms.

Any ideas what this could be?

Owner's manual, p.320:

If the transmission indicator blinks when driving, in any shift position, there is a problem with the transmission. Avoid sudden acceleration and have the transmission checked by the dealer as soon as possible.

Wondering if anyone who responded here figured out the issue. My 2016 fit just started this.. no check engine light or OBD2 codes...

Mine turned out to be the auto ignition. I started disangaging the auto ignition and the P/N/D stopped flashing and the engine stopped trying to switch off and on at every point I hit the breaks in traffic. After a while the auto ignition fail completely even after i stopped pressing that auto switch button. The engine runs fine without the auto ignition though.

Disengaging auto ignition?

Hi Daveysmith,
I've searched the internet to figure out how to disengage the auto ignition, but I haven't found anything.
My light has been flashing exactly like the OP picture.
I should have checked the coolant earlier but I checked it and it was low. Once I add more, I'll start it back up and see if it still flashes. If it does, I'd like to try what you did - could you either send me a link that describes the steps or let me know how you did it if it's a straightforward process? Many thanks! The dealership wasn't sure what it was, and my friend ran diagnostics with no codes coming up. ::fingers crossed::
