First Experience Going To The Dealership For a Routine Oil Change
2020 Fit LX CVT. First car in 20 years that I did not do an oil change myself. Old with a bad back now so no, I can no longer get under a car and certainly not one this low to the ground. Despite my best intentions I was too lazy to seek out a reputable local shop. I used their online coupon for $50.00 for the oil and filter change. Coupon said extra for synthetic which I was willing to pay. Online appointments were every 15 minutes, just like a doctor's office. When I arrived for my appointment I was shocked to see about 20 plus cars lined up at the service check in line. Hell, I didn't even know there would be a service check in line. I parked away from all that since I wanted to go in and speak with the guy with whom I made the appointment with since I neglected to ask him how much on top of the $50 synthetic was going to cost me. He told me that synthetic was included and since I had not understood what A1/B1 meant on the coupon when asked he also told me it was full synthetic and not a blend and that I would get that cursory million point inspection as well as the tires rotated.
I gotta tell you with all the cars out there waiting to be serviced and what seemed like scores of service personnel scurrying around each doing a particular job moving my car along a process until it reached the mechanic all I could think about was the first Back To The Future Movie and the full service Texaco station scene.
Anyway I was able to watch the oil change and it took all of 5 minutes including rotating the tires. I consider the $50 plus tax well spent.

My first oil/filter change was free. At that time, I told the SA to leave the undercover off. Since then, I can change the oil/filter in about 15 minutes because I am able to reach both the filter and the drain plug without having to lift the car. 5 qt Mobil 1 0-20 wt and a Fram filter at Walmart cost less than $29. Do I regret leaving the undercover off? Absolutely not.

Note how clean the bottom is without the undercover. 88k miles.
. Nice…. Mine still looks “clean,” bought used without one at about 40,000 miles, now at about 70,000 miles…. Don’t miss the piece, especially since I didn’t even know it was supposed to be there until I bought it and joined FF…. Have learned a lot here, don’t feel I’m missing out on anything without it. As many times as the air filter clips have fallen off while checking, would be a pain to have that under shield there, really…. Or drop a tool… a lot easier to pick it up from the garage floor than have to deal with that
I dropped one of the air filter clips down presumably on to that cover. Really pissed at the design - my previous Camry had similar clips but they were totally enclosed and couldn't fall off. Anyway not going underneath to remove the shield just for that. Ordered a few from Aliexpress. Two weeks later and everything's good again. I'll recover the one I dropped next time I do an oil change.
