RV6 Downpipe Rant & Alternatives

The recent news about RV6 discontinuing their downpipe for the GK5 has really killed my motivation to continue modifying my Fit. About 6 months ago when I bought the rest of my exhaust I figured “let’s wait it out and see how this works out” but I’m at the point where I want the extra power that the downpipe provides. I’ve seen plenty of graphs of after-tune results and the performance improvements are seriously impressive.

What led them to discontinue the product? Was it not selling well? Are they focusing on other platforms? Was is Honda leading the charge, the ones who discontinued the Fit in North America? There are many factors that could attribute but at the end of the day it is very upsetting.

Are there other options available in place of the RV6 product? Does anyone know of a supplier that may still have stock? As far as I’m aware the answer to both of these are no, as I’ve spent countless hours over the past few days doing research and reaching out to various companies. Pretty much no one has any available stock.

Finally, I’ve gone ahead and sent over my concerns to RV6 and I reckon that if enough people do the same we might be able to get one last batch out of them. So please, if you are in the market for a downpipe on your GK5, go to RV6 website and fill out a form under their “Contact Us” subpage. Let them know about it.

I see the header itself for sale on RZCrewGarage, it seems as if it’s sold as a 2 piece kit?

first piece and second piece

Does that look right?

All together after shipping it would be $520, not horrible.

RV6 quit making them because they were not a big seller. Plus the Fit is now discontinued. I have one on my car and honestly you are not missing out on much. They car is not much faster in general. Just louder. Not even needed on these cars.

Yeah. I’ve got a friend who tunes Honda’s so I was planning on getting the most out of it I could. Being that the stock downpipe is super restrictive I wanted to go with a more performance oriented one before I went for the tune. I may just end up getting a custom exhaust built for it.

I also agree with NWCH that you are not missing out on much. Have the RV6 catted downpipe on my car and had to try it because it exists but it definitely does not turn the GK5 into a performance car. Still slow but it gets out of its own way as long as your not in a hurry.

I own the catted version.... But i have to disagree with the "it does nothing" argument, because with modern cars like the GK as well as with almost any car.... They should. Be tuned to put up the work of the mods to their max...

Im not saying you'll have a rocket by just adding an exhaust or intake.... But they WILL be better for the optimal air flow coming in (intake) and the exhaust gases flowing out... ... As I said, it wont be a rocket but tuned properly there will be gains ....

-Drop in k&n air filter -RV6 catted header/collector - 2¼" B pipe -Tanabe Medallion axle back -Tune (KTuner)

This was my outcome

Found a J's racing downpipe from vividracing

https://www.vividracing.com/racing-sus-circuit-converter-honda-fit-20152019-p-152686072.html

maybe we can get a group buy for a small batch of 5? here is the actual manufacturer website for them.

Looks like they require 30% down. Then, they have 35 days to make them and arrange shipping.

I see this company got back to me as well. They will do orders less than 5. But, the cost is almost double with shipping included,

"Hi Owen

The express fee is usd$185 by UPS, about 7-9 business days.

Totally: usd247.5(GK5) + usd185(express fee) =usd$432.5

I am looking forward to your kindly reply.

Best Regards

I've ruined a fair number of cars in my youth by adding these unnecessary "mods" to the exhaust system.
Ended up selling one particular car as it became annoying and really uncomfortable to drive for any extended period (ringing ears).

Sure, I did mod my GK5 exhaust with an HKS "Cool Style II" exhaust system, but I refuse to go any further for the sake of comfort.
Only reason I wanted to slightly increase the noise was because a stock manual Fit is just too quiet when driving spiritedly (can't hear the exhaust note for when to shift).
Aside from that, I'm pleased with the slight change.
