Infotainment swap
Infotainment swap
Does anyone know if all the Gen3 models have the same dimensions of infotainment units? I have a 2015 and the only real complaint I have is that it doesn't have Android Auto and only minimal bluetooth integration. I know the newer year (2018-2020) cars had head units that did have Android Auto. The question is, does anyone know if the head unit would be a drop-in replacement and just work? I see some notes that it might need to be reprogrammed or something. Does anyone know what that means? I guess the question in general is - would this work at all? If I were to find a reasonably priced (wrecked) donor car on copart or something or in a nearby junkyard, would replacing the head unit actually get me what I want?
We get this question from time to time, can I upgrade my head unit?
Short answer is probably not:

If you really want Android Auto, best to go aftermarket. If you do, LaneWatch and backup cameras need to be spliced in to the CANBUS network to make everything work. So it's not gonna be cheap.
I have been doing just fine with a Sony aftermarket on my '16 LX. I don't use Android Auto so not a problem for me.
