Honda Sensing any good?

Hey fitfreaks was Honda Sensing worth it on your 2018-2020? For those that have an EX do you use it? Or do you turn it off. Has it broke on you? I’m considering getting a used 2018 Sport with Honda Sensing and trying to justify that extra cost above the non-sensing. Thanks in advance.

I have most of it turned off. The only thing I keep on is the collision warning. 99.999% of the time it gives false alarms, one avoided rear-ender pays for the system.

Adaptive cruise control is tremendously helpful to me because I do a lot of highway driving, big plus for it, but all the other stuff I pretty much ignore.

Some of the stuff which flashes warning signs or warning sounds is actually dangerous because it distracts you from what's happening on the road as you try to read the momentary dash warning. This stuff is more likely in itself to cause an accident.

Lane keeping assist is useless because the lane markings are covered in show half the year and unreadable, and a lot of times when it does activate I've deliberately chosen to shift over a bit into the oncoming lane because someone is parked by the side of the road and I want to give them some extra clearance as I drive by them (and there's no oncoming traffic).

The Collision Mitigation Braking System might be useful but the few times it activated I was well aware of the issue and had my foot hovering above the brake pedal and didn't need intervention.

I consider myself to be a pretty good driver - no moving accidents in over 50 years - so most of this stuff is of very limited value to me.

I've been spoiled ever since I had a 2015 Subaru Impreza with EyeSight(TM), and I refuse to purchase any new car without adaptive cruise control.
It's just so relaxing driving with it, as I don't care if the car in front of me keeps changing speed. I use it whenever I can, but because my Fit is manual transmission, it won't work at speeds below 25mph. The old Impreza's worked to 0, but it turned itself off once you stopped. Newer models will handle stop & go traffic situations by themselves, which would be amazing for people stuck in traffic.

I left everything ON in the old Impreza and had no major issues, but the Fit's lane sensing thing is not very good, so I leave it off. Note the old Impreza did not have any steering assist. I don't really care for that feature in the Fit anyway, so I don't use it.

I rarely had false-alarms in the Impreza, and even when it gave it, it was predictable enough. Fit has bit more false-alarms, but I've gotten used to it.

In the end, I consider Subaru's EyeSight(TM) to be way superior to Honda-Sensing, but they won't offer it with manual transmission, so I swore them off.

As for the feature itself, adaptive cruise alone is enough for me to pay extra. After that, AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) is nice to have. Anything else, meh. I understand there are some newer implementation with excellent lane tracking on the highways. It might be nice to have that, but needing to steer never annoyed me, so....

I agree, adaptive cruise control and auto high beams are my two favorite features on newer cars. Mostly because they reduce fatigue when doing 5+ hour jaunts.
While neither of my cars have it (Fit or my antique BMW), I usually have those features on many of the rental cars and SUV's i get.

I use all of it just about every day on my 2019 EX. My weekday commute is about 35 miles each way, and pretty much all interstate freeway. I leave early, around 5:30 am, so all the sense features work really well since there's a lot less traffic than during normal rush hour peaks. The afternoon part of the drive can get annoying with the ACC and all the cars jumping in and out of lanes really close, so if there's a lot of traffic, I don't use it for that part.

One thing that does kinda freak me out every so often is the automatic braking when it triggers during normal exiting of a freeway and turning left in front of oncoming traffic also turning to their left. The first time it happened, it hit the brakes pretty hard. I've mostly figured out where to "aim" to avoid it triggering these days though, so not really a problem, just a slight annoyance occasionally.

As others have mentioned, the lane keep assist really isn't anything special. It seems like more of a novelty thing to show off when someone new is riding in the car with me. But I do still turn it on when I'm on the freeway.. just on the off chance I have a brain lapse and start wandering.

I've been pretty close a couple times to get a comma 2/3 with as much freeway driving as I do. Seems like they could be pretty nice for that.
