Dashboard Lights
Dashboard Lights
A month ago I replaced the front right wheel and tire. Yesterday, while driving home, the following occurred:-
The tire pressure monitoring light started flashing and then went on.
The Vehicle Stability System light went on.
The Check engine light came on.
30 seconds later the Power Steering System light came on.
There was no change to the driving characteristics or gas mileage.
The Honda service representative says that the check engine light came on because the timing change has stretched and needs to be replaced. He had no idea why the other lights came on, and didn't seem to care.
What is going on? I don't want to spend $1800 if I don't need to.
Thanks for your response,
Terry

If I wanted to pull teeth I would have become a dentist. There's far too many posts where people don't give basic information wasting everybody's time. Yes I may have been short with him but I was really nice to everybody in my youth. Now I may be old and cranky - but I'm not unreasonable.
Later, after some thought In any event since an objection has been raised as to what I posted I will withdraw myself and not post any further in this thread.

Woof. No apology is needed. I'm also getting old and cranky - and forgetful.
My FIT is a 2015, with 86,000 miles, and it does have a timing chain.
Please be patient with me, and thank you all in advance for any advice you can give me.

Tires are all at the correct pressure. The TPMS will not re-set.
Is it possible that a problem with the power steering/wheels and tires could cause the Check engine light to go on?
I understand that the VSS light comes on whenever the check engine light comes on.

If you've changed out a tire, that means one tire is larger in diameter than the others because the others have lower tread depth. It might be minor, but could be enough to throw an error. The fit use the wheel speed sensor to calculate the rotations. Less inflated tires turn slower than properly inflated tires. Like a new larger tire will turn slower than more return tires.
The tires are all at the correct pressure, but the TPMS re-calibration process does not work.
Is it possible that a failed sensor at one of the front wheels would send an error message for the TPMS, VSS and Power Steering System, triggering those lights and the Check engine light?

When you say the recalibration does not work, what do you mean by that? Sorry to keep asking, just trying to understand what you're seeing before you start having to spend money on parts and time to swap.
I was actually out at Front Royal last weekend. Didn't realize you were there till I went on a computer. Location doesn't show on a phone web interface unless you click on the person's name.

The normal Re-calibration process is to push and hold the re-cal button until the TPMS light flashes. If the re-cal works, the light goes off.
On my car, when the power is turned on, the TPMS light flashes for about one minute and then stays on. The re-cal button changes nothing.

For the TPMS: Is it just the TPMS letters lit up or do you have the "!" with a tire icon lit? Since you have proper inflation, I'm guessing that you just have the letters for TPMS lit up. This would mean that one or more of the sensors have stopped working.
To check and clear codes, I've been using Blue Driver for the last few years and I really like it. Plugs into my OBD II port and connects to my phone or tablet. One strategy is to clear all codes and see what comes back.

Yup my next suggestion would be to run the CEL code and see what it's saying.
The behavior you're describing with it blinking for 1m and staying on is an indicator of a fault in the system. You may just be able to turn the wheel a direction and peek to see if the wheel speed sensor looks kinked or damaged.
Why was the whole front wheel/tire replaced? Was it replaced with a similar of the other 3 wheels?

The CEL code said "stretched timing chain"
I replaced the wheel and tire because I slipped on some loose gravel and hit a rock. It gashed the tire and bent the rim. This was about a month ago. I re-calibrated the TPMS and had no problem from then until now.
