Opinion on valve adjustment
Opinion on valve adjustment
I just bought a 2015 LX and did a basic service.
Compared to other cars I owed, the Fit seems pretty noisy. I understand that valve adjustment/clearance check is common among Honda owners (a job that I can do as DIY), but I wanted an opinion of whether you think my car needs one. If this is not urgent, I'll wait for a bad winter day to close myself in the garage and do it, otherwise I'll try to prioritize it.
This is how the car sounds:
With cold engine: https://photos.app.goo.gl/pLHpmj8kUU93svZd8
With engine at operating temperature: https://photos.app.goo.gl/UaWfZ5s5Jj2B8azP6

Welcome. The way I understand it, the pounding action of the valves will over time, open the intake valves slightly and restrict the exhaust valves the same way. The engine can't breathe as well - can't exhaust all the gases on the the exhaust stroke - and decreased mileage/power result.
When I had a valve lash adjustment done on my '08 Sport at around 100K, the effect was noticeable. Felt like I gained an extra gear (manual tranny).
I don't think it's urgent, but you can certainly get to it when you're ready. When you're doing the adjustment, a bent tip feeler gauge helps over a straight tip, because clearances in there are kind of tight.

It’s normal but…
At 45k when I acquired mine it always had a loud sewing machine like sound. All mechanics I’ve seen said it’s normal for this car including the Honda dealership. At almost 70k now it sounds the same. Can and should do valve adjustment/check after 100k they recommend. So between a sewing machine and the baby rattle(VTC actuator) you can just love your baby Fit even more. Maybe do an engine and tranny oil analysis on yours to get some stats: good luck!
