No start. Key stuck. No display on tranny gear (cvt)

When to start the car today.

Dash lights up, fuel pump, lights, locks, and windows all work. Won’t turn over. Tried boosting. Nothing. Battery less than 3 years old.

key won’t come out of ignition. Shift lever only works with manual release engaged. No display on the tranny gear indicator on dash. Tired locking and unlocking doors with second remote. Nothing.

was finally able to key out by disconnecting battery.

any ideas?

Put battery on charger. Charged for about 90 mins. Now at least, I get a check charging system on the dash AND the tranny gear indicator shows PNRS (all overlapping each other).

agh!

I was thinking a bad start switch - until I saw "key stuck." Not a pushbutton start model.

So really two problems - won't start & key stuck.

For the first, a bad starter or starter solenoid is a possibility. Didn't mention how many miles on your vehicle, but starters tend to fail much sooner on pushbutton start models than key start models. Replacing your (key-start) starter under 150K miles would be unusual unless you're using your Fit as a service vehicle.

For the second, a bad shifter interlock might cause the key to not want to come out.

I believe the shifter interlock also has a solenoid. Might be worth seeing if it can be repaired or replaced if it's not functioning properly.

Car has about 135,000 km.

key comes out when battery is disconnected. So weird….never had any issues with this car. A sudden failure.

my brother is a Honda mechanic but he’s far away. He thinks the car doesn’t know it’s in park.

I think your brother is right. The car needs to know when the tranny is in Park or Neutral before the key can be removed. If the car doesn't know, key never comes out, so the starter interlock never disengages unless you disconnect the battery.

So would a bad starter interlock also cause the car not to start - for the same reason, doesn't know the car is in P or N? Might be another question for your brother....

Another agreement here. My guess is that the transmission is lost (it thinks it's in R/D/L, or doesn't know what gear it's in).
Maybe the sensor is bad. Maybe there's a wiring problem. Maybe related computer has a problem.
Could be lots of things, but the symptoms are pointing at the transmission "brain."

Dealer discovered chewed wiring. That was another of my brothers thoughts. It’s that time of year up here in Canada. Just so happens we drove later in the day on Friday. And then it got cold. So I guess some critter made its home in the wiring. We normally don’t drive in the evening so I guess the car has never been warm at night and invited the guests.

dealer is starting with 4 hours labour, hope that’s all!

I found a nest in the air filter housing. I had to put some metal mesh across the air opening to keep them out, There was also another nest on top of the gas tank. The tank had to be dropped to clean that out, They chewed right through the cabin air filter and appeared to be in the process of building another nest there. Lot of insulation and plastic chewed up, but I don't think any wiring. The old saying is true - there's no such thing as one mouse. I believe my insurance claim was just under $3K.

When I dropped my car off to have everything taken care of they were so backed up there were about 25 vehicles there ahead of me, most of them RVs. Since this was Fall and the RV season was over, cars were getting priority and most of the RVs probably wouldn't get touched until Spring. They were busy since it had been a booming year for rodents.

I know Honda sells “spicy” tape to wrap the wires. Seems like it would difficult to apply everywhere.

im gonna start with Tomcat cedar oil repellent spray.
