Unhappy 2009 Fit ignition key stuck

I pulled home last night and my key would not turn all the way off. Only once I disconnect the battery can I get it to turn all the way off and get it out. Any ideas?

You have a manual or auto? Did you make sure it was all the way in park? What happened when you put the key back in to start it again?

It is an automatic. I can get the key out when I disconnect the battery but other than that it just gets stuck again,

I have driven it for several weeks now - (my nearest Honda dealer is about 5 hours away) I have tried wiggling it in park etc no luck so far.

There is a direct link between the automatic shifter and the removal of the key. worn springs or linkage in the Auto shifter will cause a problem with removing the key. That would be my first step.

Google: key stuck automatic

Was ther ever any resolution on this? My FIT started doing the exact same thing yesterday. Can only get key out when battery is disconnected. Tried two different keys--same thing.

Thanks!

It's probably your transmission range position sensor, about $73.00 part from the dealer.

We found out a mouse has been living in the car and probably has chewed a wire somewhere. I talked to a mechanic and he thinks it has something to do with what he called the "bitsy" switch tied in with the AT shifter, I think the same thing you are referring to. Let's hope the little rat hasn't done any other damage. Thanks for the input.

Check out my thread that I started recently. I haven't fixed mine yet, but I think I found what the cause is.

I didn't realize how old this thread was... did you find a solution?
