Key doesn't work in the ignition?

This is the weirdest car problem I've ever had.

I drove my 2009 AT Fit all over the place Saturday, didn't drive it at all on Sunday, and now my key won't turn in the ignition. It still works on all the doors. There was no extraordinary trauma to the key on Sunday (I was at a party for several hours, but it was not in an accessible place where it could have been mauled).

I haven't suddenly forgotten how to use the key, I am pushing it in, and doing everything like normal, it just won't turn.

The key has a couple surface scratches, and a small chip on the most front part that inserts into the ignition. I looked carefully, and I don't think it's bent. I checked it, and it works in all the doors. It's definitely my key ring, and my car.

I guess I'm going to have to go to the dealers, and hope that a new key will fix the problem.

But does anyone have any idea as to what happened?! Is it just something about the key?

Turn the steering wheel to release the lock.

Thanks, dude!

After an hour and twenty minutes of getting the spare key (I wasn't home, and the spare didn't work anyway) and talking to my brother about it, I called my father, and that's what he suggested, too.

And it worked!

So now I feel like an utter idiot, but I'm really happy because I don't have to get my car towed to the dealer.

You are a god among men, Virtual! I could have fixed the problem 40 minutes ago if only I had stayed on the forum and waited for your valuable input.

Thanks again!

Way to go Idiot . Been there done that. A way back in 1970 on my 510 Datsun.

I believe alcohol was a factor then too.

I do not consume now so I have not had a similar problem with the Fit.

I'm glad I could help. I've seen this before when my father went to pick up an Accord years ago at the dealer. He thought they had given him the wrong keys to his new car.
