07 fit, key stuck and no start
07 fit, key stuck and no start
Hey everyone
New here but not new to Hondas, have had a handful couple of my favourites being my 93 civic turbo b16 coupe and 91 civic hb with a b20z. Always have liked the fits but we're always out of my price range to have just as a gas miser.
This one fell into my lap for 400 bucks so I couldn't say no. Got to change a windshield, brakes, battery and clutch and should be good
Anyways. Here's the one problem I've been trying to diagnose. The car was running when I first looked at it, everything seemed good aside from previous issues.
Shut the car off tried to take the keys out and couldn't do it. Doesn't crank to start now either.
Anyone have any idea ? Could this be because the battery is dead and it's not storing a "memory" or something like this? Is there a battery inside the key itself?
If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate them thank you!

There is a transponder chip inside the key. The battery inside the 'fob' is only for remote locking, if equipped.
For an MT car, either the ignition lock tumblers are stuck, or the steering column lock is binding.
Sounds counter-intuitive, but banging the key IN (with a plastic hammer or screwdriver handle) often frees the key up. If this works. apply a graphite lube such as Lock-Ease soon as you can.
If the column is binding, wiggle the steering wheel left/right as you work the key. Then, it might release.

Sounds good thanks for your reply, looks like my key is broken maybe someone's tried the hammer idea already.. The column does move as it rolled it into the garage and turned the wheels...now worst case here if I replace the whole ignition switch and whole key with something off eBay I assume I would have to get the ecu reprogrammed at the dealer for the new chip or how would this work
Search for "switchblade Key Honda" on google. These DIYs (from different models) detail the task of installing your existing transponder into a different key.
You key is broken off??? That's a job for a locksmith. Dealers can program it too, but often they send the job to a locksmith anyway.

Ok so still no luck, contemplating breaking the Key off, and replacing the tumbler and go from there.
So replace tumbler, swap the chip from my key into used tumbler key and go from there, all my immobilizer stuff will still be the same correct? I'm just not really sure how these components work
