Undercarriage Shield Issue

I have a 2015 EX and had undercarriage replaced in Mar2022. In Jun2022 it came undone as well as Nov2022 and Dec2022. Dealer tells me every time I go to get it fixed “We replaced the clips” yet somehow those clips keep falling out or off. Why? The zip ties were put on seem to work better. Why can’t they fix this? Is anyone else having this issue? I’m sick of being the stupid idiot taking my car in to the dealer. Who else can fix this?

If you are talking about the really big one that goes under the passenger compartment, I haven't replaced mine since it fell off. Drove it like that for years. My car was rustproofed at the time.

So they're doing it wrong? Just use zip ties and if you bring the car in for an oil change give them extra zip ties and tell them to use the zip ties.
Or buy new clips and screws and redo it yourself.

I've began replacing all those stupid plastic rivets with rivnuts, bolts and washers.

We get this all the time at the dealer I'm at. Half of the ones that still have it are held in by zipties. worst case, use 2 up front and 2 out back. Cut the back 2, drop it down, and just replace those.

I turned mine into a piece of art after the first oil change. Some incorrectly call it a "splash guard".OK, then they came up with all kind of rationales that it shouldn't be removed without any supporting data. My 2017 LX CVT Fit, 113K miles, constantly getting over 40 mpg.

I decided in the best interest of my sanity and the safety of my life, I took that darn piece off and I have to say my car feels 2 pounds lighter!

If you're talking about the plastic push pins which go into the splash shield under the engine area, there are different sizes for those. Those particular ones for the Fit have to be designed to fit a 10 mm hole. If the dealer uses a smaller size push pin then it might initially seem snug but it's going to fall out from car vibration sooner or later. Not to be cynical, but falling out may be to the dealer's financial advantage. Also, if the dealer is buying cheaper third party push pins (rather than paying more from Honda) they may have a high failure rate.

The push pins in my opinion should only be used once. If you take that cover off for an oil change then new pins should always be put on. Putting the old ones back on is asking for trouble. Bags of them are available on Amazon. I always use new and have never lost a single push pin.

As others have mentioned you can use plastic tie wraps or just leave the cover off all together - but make sure the dealer doesn't try to charge you for putting a new one on.

Thank you

Woof, I appreciate your long input which is very informative and good info to know. If you could please send me the Amazon item number or link I might consider having that thing put back on however I have so little faith in it now. You are right that the dealer will try to force me to pay for another one that they will probably put back on and say “It was loose”. Ha!

I don't have the specific item link which I purchased but they are fairly generic with many sellers including:

Push pin rivet Push pin rivet

Push pin rivet Push pin rivet

You can do a generic search for "Honda push rivet". The important thing is that it has to be 10 mm size, although other sizes might also be used elsewhere on the car to hold trim in place and the like. Kits are available which contain a variety of sizes.

One thing I would suggest is to NEVER have the dealer replace them, or to buy them from the dealer parts counter. I noticed one was missing and I was at the dealer to get some warranty work done and had time to kill so asked the parts guy if they had it..they did for $9.95 lol. EACH. I was thinking they’d be a few bucks. Maybe that’s a Hawai’i price but still😳 I ordered an entire set with different sizes and lengths from Amazon for a few bucks more so if I lose one I just replace it. I think the kit had a few hundred pieces and came with a few different types of removal tools
