My first Fit and just learning how fun it is! Any tips?

Hey FitFreaks! I just bought a 2015 Fit EX (45K miles) in excellent condition--looks pretty close to brand new. Still familiarizing myself with it so if there are any helpful suggestions would be most appreciative of hearing. I am not a car person (nor a do it myselfer when it comes to cars) so am hoping to get some great tips from those of you who have the same/similiar model!

I'm in the market for a cargo cover (that a woman with no clue with cars) can easily install. I've only found really old posts from when the 2015 Fit was new. Any ideas on where I might find a great substitute (the Honda part cost is ridiculous) at a much lower price?

My new 2015 Honda Fit EX (45K miles)

Black Sport Wheels.

Get rid of the chrome wheels.

Get a set of Honda Fit Black Sport wheels.

Your car will look alot better.

Tips?

Don't follow the maintenance light to indicate when to change the oil.
Change it at least every 5k miles/6 months. Whichever occurs first.

-Consider getting a smaller set of wheels.
The current set from the factory are ok, but a smaller diameter (15 inch) will give you better fuel economy, better ride over potholes etc and be cheaper to replace (when they need replacement).

My 2016 Fit is my first Honda product I've ever owned.
After years of owning several Euro makes, it's ok...but not quite as reliable as an older Honda product (prior to direct injection).
If I could offer advice to someone, I'd suggest the previous generation as they have a better overall reliability record.
That's not to say our generation of Fit is bad, it's just not as reliable as the older versions.
With enough preventative maintenance, ours can be reliable.

PM me if you have any further questions.

It's beautiful as it is. Don't fix what isn't broken. Use Top Tier gas always. Done!

Congrats and welcome to the club. I'm not sure how much the dealer quoted for the cargo cover but I see them on Amazon for about 80 USD. For tips, the car works really well and there aren't any changes that actually need to be made. Kinda just work with what you have until you find something that bothers you. The biggest improvement for me was pulling the rear seats out and making a mega cargo cover to keep the nosey people out. Ditto on the 15' rims and make sure that eco mode is off for better fuel economy and acceleration.

@dfw I like the wheels that you have. I would keep them.

I agree with @exl500 's comment above. Enjoy the car and do regular maintenance.

I agree with @BMWguy22 's comment above, but I'm a car guy who changes his own oil. You will be fine if you regularly check your oil level (there's a dipstick for this under the hood), and change your oil and filter every 3,000 mi.-7,500 mi. or once a year.

Good luck.

Don't be afraid to take it on long trips. We've been everywhere east of Montana in ours, and we live near Clearwater, FL. Our 2021 trip was 6,000 miles. And make sure you pack most of your earthly belongings, because you can! ;-)

I removed the two back seats, which gave me more cargo space and saved 64 lbs.

Keep the chrome wheels.

Black Sport wheels are waaaaay overdone.

Your car looks awesome as-is.

Congrats and enjoy.

I second this post. I'm sick of black wheels.

If you're crafty, consider making your own rear cargo cover. I used foam board, curtain rods and felt. It's been there for at least 8 years and working great, even tilts like the OEM. Cost about $15-20 but it's been a while. Click my signature for pictures.

When you need new tires, consider upsizing and go with 205/50/16. It's an easier size to find as well than the stock size.

Center armrest needs to be higher for more comfort.

You can change the shifter for the leather EX-L. Way more comfortable.

If the steering wheel feels small, you can get it wrapped and that gives it some extra girth.

When the battery goes out, go with the 51R. More cranking power and should last longer.

Headlights are awful. Led bulbs make a big difference.
