Dead Battery

I tried to start my car the other day, and the battery was dead. It had been working fine all along, so I suspect something drained it. Nothing was turned on, and all the doors were closed. I used my little Tacklife jumper, and it started right up and continued to start throughout the day. When a door opens, two LEDs turn on, but they use very little current, and all the doors were closed.

Actually, the battery was dead the day before. The key fob wouldn't lock or unlock the doors, and I thought the key fob battery needed replacement. I tried my second key fob the next morning, and that didn't work either.

One huge mistake Honda made with these cars is not providing a way to start the car with a dead key fob. There is a key to unlock the door, but suppose you actually want to drive. I wonder if anyone has come up with a way to start the engine without the START button. I'd like to have an ignition switch.

Even with the key fob dead enough that it won't unlock the car doors, you can get into the car with the physical key. Then hold up the key fob to the push button and chances I'll start up. I had to do that and it does work.

Thanks. That worked for me once, too, but that key fob battery must be strong enough to start the car. "Chance Are" is a great song by Johnny Mathis, but it's not good enough if I have to drive somewhere. 😁

New Battery

Buy a Diehard Battery from Advance Auto and go to CVS for a new key fob battery.

Problem solved.

It works even with no battery in the fob. All cars with push button start have that feature, u hold the fob against the engine start button and it will start the car. Electromagnetic field or something.

I buy my little batteries from Amazon by the bunch. The CR2032 is used in so many things that I always have some on hand.

You have no idea how long those Amazon ordered batteries have been sitting on the shelf. The batteries could be discharged when you get them. Now you have to send the batteries back and wait for new ones.

At least if you buy batteries at CVS or Walgreens when they go bad you can get a new battery right then and there.

I've been doing this for years - no dead ones yet. I think Amazon has pretty quick turnover, and most of those batteries come from independent sellers, not Amazon directly.

I've gotten brand-name batteries from Amazon that died quickly so I think they were counterfeits. Also Amazon brand batteries, at least the AAA, rather suck. I have an outdoor thermometer that uses AAAs and ever since I got some from Amazon I've had to replace them far more frequently. So now I buy Duracell or Costco brand (Duracell last longer but they don't last that much longer and they're more expensive).

I think all of the little batteries I've bought through Amazon have come from independent sellers. A common source is a seller in Brooklyn, my old hometown. I have a box full of little batteries for cameras, indoor/outdoor thermometers, ukulele tuners, meat thermometers, etc. It beats driving into town every time I need a battery. As I said, no duds yet.

For unbeatable life and outdoor use in cold temperatures I found the Energizer Lithium AA and AAA unbeatable. Very expensive nowadays but I bought a bunch years ago when they were generally cheaper and cheaper still at my Costco, which no longer carries them
