I'm new to working on cars and I'm hoping someone can help me with replacing the evaporator in my 2015 Honda Fit EX (3rd gen).
I had the 134a recovered by a local shop. I replaced the original condenser, compressor and expansion valve with all new parts.
I haven’t found a video showing an evaporator replacement for a 3rd gen Fit like mine. The only video tutorials I have found are for the 2nd gen Honda Fit which are not applicable for my vehicle.
How does the Honda service manual indicate the evaporator core be replaced in a 3rd gen Fit?
In order to access the evaporator housing the blower and motor assembly need to be removed (see image below). The assembly can be unbolted from the fire wall, but the plastic and metal glove box frame is in the way (red arrows in image).
The glove box frame is part of the one piece plastic dashboard with no visible seams or joints. There does not appear to be a way of removing it without cutting it out and I’d rather not take a saw to my dashboard. Am I missing something? Can it be removed?
I would like to avoid having to disassemble the blower and motor assembly down to its constituent parts just to take it out. It makes me worry that I might lose something or mess something up when I put it back together again.
Is there a way to remove the blower and motor assembly without completely disassembling it or cutting the glove box frame?
Have any of you 3rd gen Fit owners replaced your evaporator core? How did you do it?
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Best,
Scovi
Here is an example of a Honda Fit 2nd gen evaporator replacement video.
I know nothing about replacing the evap core. However,
I just replaced my expansion valve (2016 EX). The valve unbolts from the engine bay side. it's quite easy to do. The steel bolts may need replaced, since they are steel threading into aluminum. Those are M6x1.0 25mm long, flanged head. One of mine was quite corroded. You have to remove the A/C hardlines that run over top of the engine to get to the valve.
I'm wondering what ever happened with your evaporator core. Did you remove it yourself or get a shop to do it, and what was involved?
