Modify underbody panel for easier Oil Change? Fumoto valve?

'16 Fit (Daughter's car).

I do the basic maintenance on it. When she got it, the plastic shielding under the engine had cracks/broken areas from things hitting under the car.

Works fine with Zip ties, and new push plugs. I'm thinking of buying a replacement, but also thought about putting a Fumoto valve on the oil drain, and making a cut-out to access the filter (so you don't need to remove the panel every time.

Has anyone installed a Fumoto valve? Clearance issues? (I know there's not much clearance under the car).

Cut-out in the panel to access the oil filter?

Thanks!

I would just remove and replace the factory panel, just like Honda does. The stock drain bolt isn't hard to remove by any means. So I'm not sure I would waste time changing it for a valve that can leak.

It's not hard to remove either, just seeing if it's been done on here. The Fumoto valves work very well and aren't prone to leaks...my biggest complaint is that they drain slower than just pulling the plug. I've changed the oil multiple times by removing the shield. (and the CVT fluid). Going to do the belts and oil shortly, figured it was worth asking on here if it has been done.

That Fumoto valve is cool, I've never seen one before. I've been replacing all my plastic rivets with threaded rivnuts so I can just get under the car with a drill and 5mm hex bit and knock them out. It's pretty handy.

I tried one with the tool (on the ones along the back side of the shield. I didn't have the car up enough to get the right angle on the tool, so it 'bulged' the riv-nut out and it spins. I'm going to drill it out next time under there, and go with the 'oversized nut on the bolt' technique to get it in place.

Fumoto or EZ drain valve, I had the EZ drain valve on my GK Fit, while my brother has the Fumoto drain valve on his GK. They both work fine, a lot cleaner than dealing with the factory drain bolt. Never had any issue with it. Unfortunately when removing the oil filter, it will still create some mess. But with the drain valve at least you can hook a silicone tube to the drain valve and send the used oil directly to the empty 5qt oil jug to take it in for recycling.
