Replacing the stock Aluminum Wheels on a 2015 GK
Replacing the stock Aluminum Wheels on a 2015 GK
Hey all, long time lurker who has finally got up the guts to ask a question. So I have a 2015 FIT that my son has been driving. It has the factory spoked 15 inch aluminum wheels and the low profile tires. He has destroyed these wheels, cub rash, and hit several curbs. I'd like to replace with stock Steel wheels and wheel covers and get back to a regular sized tire. The ride comfort on the low profiles just seems terrible, especially on Northern CA freeways. I did this a few years ago on my 2010.. but I think it had 14 inch wheels? Anything I need to be aware of. Can I replace with factory 15" steel wheels and run a 185 60/15 or would you all suggest a different tire size? Sorry for the long question, just trying to get the best ride out of this low miles (34,500) 2015 FIT. Thanks all!!
Ok.. I was 100% wrong.. The wheels on it right now are 16" wheels and it has 185/55R16's on it. Can I go to a 15" steel wheel and put some less low profile tires on it. I know, I know, it will make it look like a grandma's car.. but that's exactly who will be driving it, grandma. :0) and if you think it's bad what the kid did to the wheels, you should see grandma's old 2007 Civic.
That must be a "Before" pic, before he curbed the wheel?
On a related note, my Fit had just 22,000 miles when I bought it but the ghetto kid that had it before me managed to curb all four wheels really bad. I feel your pain! It's virtually 100% cosmetically perfect otherwise.

14" aftermarket wheels may or may not fit...with a wheel weight......so 4x100 in 14" would work.....hit or miss...that's what i run for snow tires ..one set works, the other doesn't
VMy '16 LX came with 15" steelies and 185/60/15 tires. You could switch to steelies or alloys, and with the higher profile tires, should work just fine.
that seemslike good advice

I wouldn't call the 16's we have low profile by ANY means. And if he's already ruined one set of wheels... why give him another set to beat up?
If you seriously need more sidewall, sure go for it. Personally I think you'd just be wasting money on this though.

I’ve been running wider and sometimes taller wheels on Fits for a decade. In the Summer I go as wide as I can on the factory Sport wheels: 205/50r16. A lot of people on the Facebook Honda Fit groups seem to think it’s the perfect size and so do I. It’s a rare size so you will have to order tires and wait for them to come in. Tire Rack is your friend here.
In the winter I run 195/65r15 snow tires. They are an inch taller than stock to help clear the snow.
