Carbon Build up?
I'm going to pick up a 2018 6-speed Fit Sport this weekend that has around 140K miles. I had it checked by a mechanic and everything is fine. I know that the GK5s use Direct Injection, so I wanted to ask you guys who might also have a 2018, if they're encountering any issues with carbon buildup?
Direct Injection has been out for awhile and I know that the very early cars who had GDI engines had major issues. I also know that the DI technology has evolved where it's not too bad for certain manufacturers, but are our GK5s included in that group?
What's your take and experience?

It's there but nothing to worry about. Hasn't affected vehicles we have so far (2018 GK G's and 2017 GK5 RS). When I did the injector cleaning I did notice the carbon in the intake valves. Good thing I followed the recommendation to check the injectors because it was obvious on them..
Cleaned the throttle body and intake and installed a oil catch.
Mileage is 70k+ kilo on the 2018 and 110k+ kilo on the 2017 so not close to yours. So if ur mechanic checked and those are ok for you then u should be good to go
*Just keep the injectors in mind 👀
Seen some post floating around about walnut blasting the intakes.. so maybe thats a consideration way future lol
Car is pretty nice at 125hp now🙏

Driving habits are important. If you do a lot of short term city driving you may be more likely to get a carbon buildup. A lot of highway driving which will help burn carbon off, probably still some but maybe not enough to worry about. If your fuel injectors are running rich, then yeah more risk. etc etc There's a lot of factors at work here and I think people get too worried thinking about this. Enjoy your car, there's not much you can do about the carbon. Deal with it when it becomes a problem, if it becomes a problem.

Heres what I do

-Only buy top brand gas and stick to that brand almost always
-I like Castrol Edge for oil changes and tested different oils with professional tests and found Castrol Edge the best at keeping fuel dilution(water in oil) to bare minimum
-Dont be afraid of an occasional “italian tune up” to break up carbon
-If you need to do short trips try to stack your errands so the engine runs longer and gets up to higher temps
-Use occasional gas treatments that clean the injectors
-Say a prayer
Goodluck
