I just inherited a Fit with this same problem. Sometimes it starts just fine and then it wont and ill have to spend up to several minutes trying to get it to fire. My bet is the armature is bad on my starter. Just picked up a closeout sale on a reman from Rockauto for about $100 plus shipping. Ill swap it out as soon as it gets here. My suggestion is to go OEM for this part, or at least OEM that is reman. Starters are high wear items and anything knockoff wont last and you will not want to be stranded.

I tend to agree with 2015FITEX as all of these re-manufactured starter motors failed prematurely as I think they are 2015 and newer(including mine with only about 40K miles) - it seems it's not uncommon for the starter motor to fail in these. As 2015EX has not had any issues with the new WAI starter he bought, I plan to go that route.

I can relate, just went through a lot of BS to fix what sounds the same on my '15 LX, so my lil Feet now has new clutch switch(es), starter, some relay, several days of no car then a big bill. I ended up going to Honda dealer as local mechs couldn't get it straight...Honda had a "Honda tech" (allegedly) come and help them figure it out.....c'mon, I've a base 6 spd LX 10 years old, about as simple a newer car you'll find today.......I honestly would've put big money down and bet that it was the clutch switch (apparently there's two?), as when it started (quite often) it fired right up but it felt like I had to have the clutch depressed to just the right place at just the right time or nothing....I was a fool paying but...I need my car us old retired dudes need to get to the damn docs and all...

One at the beginning of the pedal travel to cancel cruise control when you press the clutch, one near the end of pedal travel to make sure the clutch is disengaged while starting the engine.

I installed a new clutch interlock switch also but didn't help (I should have jump wired the connector before buying one but was convinced that was the problem). As I mentioned before, a new relay was no help. Kind of leaves the ignition switch (low probability), wiring and the starter motor. As I get an instant start when it does start, I don't think it's wiring. At least I'm only about $55 into it so far with parts that didn't need replaced. I've ordered a WAI starter motor from Roc Auto- hopefully it's the fix.

Its the fix BUT set aside half of saturday , a LARGE breaker bar, some thinking, and some lotion and disinfectant (for skinned knuckles) and hopefully your tetanus shots up to date ..those bolts TIGHT....steel in aluminum+corrosion U do the math...i would HIGHLY recommend a can of "neversieze:" upon reassembly if u plan to keep the car. I think i jacked the car up....but i might have not...cant really rember...i think u might have to jack it up to get the clearance for the breaker bar swing...YOU WILL NEED regular ratchet with LONG PIPE over to get leverage or LONG breaker bar

Was the Starter Motor

I went ahead and purchased a new WAI starter motor and had it installed just over 2 weeks ago. So about $150 for the starter motor and $200 for installation (I didn't have any way to get under the car without buying ramps).
Have not had any issues so far.
Thanks for everyone's help.
