Angry How to get RIGHT color paint?

I own a 2016 Fit LX that, unfortunately has white paint which it was later found that Honda in 2016 used faulty white paint and it's been chipping off the car for quite some time now. We love the car. It's running great, but this is going to be the death of it if we don't do something. Getting it professionally painted seems prohibitively expensive. $1k? Sure. $5k+? No way. We'd rather just trade it in at that point.

So, given that, how can we find the exact right paint match for this? I tried this once before and got a white that claimed to be right but turned out to not be the right shade. I also own a Wagner Power Painter so that can be used for this job. Any insight on how to do it right would be greatly appreciated.

One issue you might be seeing is that many (most?) paints fade or change slightly over time. So, the matching paint you purchase might not match the paint on a 2016 Fit in 2025 simply because the paint on the 2016 isn't (exactly) the same color it was in 2016. This is especially true if the car has lived outside or in a harsh/sunny location.

If you're planning on painting the entire car yourself, this is not a problem. If you want to try to touch-up the flaky areas, you may struggle.

I originally had a body shop I know paint the roof after much of that flaked off. It's impossible to see where it transitions, but I guess they're really good at getting it to match... Ugh.

I forgot to mention that a body shop is your most likely method of finding a paint match. A good shop should be able to analyze the paint on the car and make a custom mix to match. Will they sell you the paint if you don't have them doing the work? I don't know, but it's worth a shot if you want to paint yourself.
